Vs. Spong was a Friday Night Funkin' Game Mod, based off the popular kids show Spongebob Squarepants... Kind of. Well... uh... that's not SpongeBob per se, it's hard to explain. But whatever Spong is, he isn't SpongeBob.

A remaster was planned, but it was cancelled and instead released as an unfinished build.

Examples from the original mod:

Examples from the unfinished remaster:

  • Adaptational Badass: SpongeBob manages to get in some singing of his own in the remastered "Abrasive", rather than being overpowered throughout the whole thing.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Spong's unused dialogue in the remaster is even cruder than in the original, dropping Cluster F-Bombs and yelling out more abrasive things than before when SpongeBob confronts him.
  • Adapted Out:
    • Girlfriend is nowhere to be seen in the remaster.
    • Downplayed with "Pineappled." It was replaced entirely in the remaster, with its role being taken by "Serpent," although part of it is heard in "Born."
  • Angrish: Spong's unused dialogue for "Abrasive" mostly consists of this, because of Spongebob trying to steal the mic back.
  • Art Evolution: As is to be expected from a remaster. Spong and SpongeBob's designs have been updated to original drawings with proper animations instead of stock photos, and Spong's appearance in "Serpent" is a lot more coherent than the mess in "Pineappled".
  • Art Shift: Not only are the sprites in "Bibulus" drawn in the style of Undertale, but the entire song is from Boyfriend's POV.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: In the unused dialogue for "Abrasive", Boyfriend credits the person behind the updated vocals in a *Cough* Snark *Cough* line.
Boyfriend: *cough cough cough cough* new abrasive vocals by st4r *cough cough dies of lung cancer*
    Spong: what
  • Darker and Edgier: Spong's final phase transformation is taken more seriously in the remaster, being given a coherent design resembling a Perverse Puppet instead of a glitching mess of images, a proper song with a frantic melody and rasping vocals, and a hint at possible lore involving a lab of some sort. That's not even getting into the revelations in "Born" about Spong's origin...
  • Dem Bones: Downplayed. The unused character "Billy" is a diagram of a female human (despite being male) with a skull for a head.
  • Interface Screw: Strangely Subverted in "Pineappled" When accessed in the remaster, for some reason, none of the interface screw it had in the original mod is present, likely because the remaster was unfinished.
  • Mechanical Abomination: Spong seems to be one, as revealed in "Serpent."
  • Medium Blending: The unused 3D Spong applies.
  • Mind over Matter: Implied with Sp, whose mic is floating in front of them, despite never making contact with his hands.
  • Patter Song: "Spong" and "Absorb" have unchanged vocals, making them this. "Serpent" brings down an even greater torrent of notes for a majority of the song. That's not even getting to "IP," which, although not finished, obviously sounds like it'd be even spammier than serpent.
  • Perverse Puppet: Spong in "Serpent" appears to be this, hanging from the sky by yellow chains that seem to be forcing him to sing.
  • Precision F-Strike:
    • At the end of "IP," somebody randomly yelling "FUCK!" can be heard.
    • The only thing Viacom says in "Copyright Evasion" is "Fuck you!"
  • Shout-Out:
    • "Bibulus" is heavily based on the Spongeswap AU of Undertale, complete with a black-and-white pixelated style.
    • "Copyright Evasion" is a remix of the only song in bbpanzu's "Vs. Arch" mod with significantly more spam and Spong taking the place of Boyfriend.
  • Skyward Scream: Spong lets one out at the end of the remastered "Abrasive".
  • Stylistic Suck: Downplayed compared to the original version, but "IP" (and it's opponent, "SP.") and "My Mistake" definitely apply.
  • Suddenly Voiced: In the remastered version of "Abrasive", similar to its older version:
  • Take That!: "Copyright Evasion" is one against Viacom's infamous copyright claims.
  • Token Human: The unused character "Guy" is the only human character in the entire mod, barring Boyfriend.
  • Unwinnable Joke Game: "IP" likely would've been one if it was finished.
  • Wham Episode: "Born" is a 'song' that reveals that Spong was born in a lab, and killed the scientist who made him, before presumably escaping.
