Utsurundesu (写るんです) (translation: It's In The Picture) is an indie horror game created by Kazz.

You play as a junior high school student who unwittingly gets lost at the foot of a cursed mountain. Even worse, the mountain is crawling with invisible monsters who are more than happy to tear you apart. Armed with only a camera that can momentarily reveal and stun them, can you solve the mystery of the mountain and successfully escape with your life?

The game can be downloaded for free here. Note that the game is only in Japanese.

Utsurundesu contains examples of:

  • Animesque: The protagonist (and the spirit of the shrine) has a cute, anime-esque design, greatly contrasting the horrific and uncanny designs of the monsters.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Fulfilling the conditions for the true ending has the spirit of the shrine slay the monster about to attack the protagonist from behind to cover her escape, while she bids her farewell with a smile.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: The true ending is very difficult to achieve. You must go through the entire game without loading any checkpoints or dying, then make an offering at the shrine, and then make it to the exit, still avoiding the monsters. Even a single death forces you to start the game all over again.
  • Evil Laugh: The witch lets out a sinister laugh when she's close to you.
  • Death Glare: Unlike the other monsters, the woman's head sports a cold glare on her face as she chases you.
  • Flying Face: The floating heads of a woman and a man are two of the monsters that haunt the mountain. The woman's eyes are covered by her hair, while the man sports a perpetual Glasgow Grin.
  • Ghostly Gape: The zombie sports a wide mouth that is perpetually open and gaping.
  • Have a Nice Death: The game over screen is a news report of the protagonist having gone missing in the mountain.
  • Hell Is That Noise: The zombie lets out an inhuman howl to signify its presence nearby, and the presence of the woman's head and the man's head is preceded by an eerie drone.
  • Invisible Monsters: The main threats of the game, consisting of the zombie, the woman's head, the man's head, and the witch. They can be revealed by using the camera, which momentarily stuns them and lets you evade their grasp. They also reveal themselves if you get close to them from the front.
  • Jump Scare: If a monster kills you from behind, you're treated to a horrifying close up of its face before going to the game over screen.
  • Multiple Endings: There are two endings that can be obtained.
    • Normal Ending: The protagonist manages to reach the exit out of the mountain, but is possessed by evil spirits and disappears, leaving only her camera behind.
    • True Ending: Successfully evading all of the monsters' grasps and making an offering at the shrine, the protagonist manages to reach the exit. One of the monsters tries to attack her, but is fortunately slain by the unsealed spirit of the shrine, who happily bids her farewell.
  • Nightmare Face: Getting caught by a monster while it's behind you treats you to a horrible close up of its face, especially the man's head and the zombie dog.
  • Nintendo Hard: The game is quite difficult, with relentless invisible monsters that can instantly kill you with a touch, while having to solve puzzles on the way. And good luck if you're going for the true ending.
  • Nothing Is Scarier: A huge bulk of the terror comes from the dread of not knowing where the monsters might be creeping up on you, forcing you to constantly stay vigilant and use the camera.
  • One-Hit Kill: Touching any of the monsters is an instant game over.
  • Slasher Smile: The witch and the man's head sport horrifyingly wide smiles as they hunt you down.
