The World Called Hollow is a text-based Multi-User Dungeon Role-Playing Game set in the fantasy land of Lithrydel, more commonly known as "Hollow." The world is shaped in its entirety by the player characters and their actions.

Tropes that can be associated with The World Called Hollow:
- Aborted Arc - There's an entire page on the game wiki devoted to these.
- Adjective Animal Alehouse - The Dancing Destrier and the Hanging Corpse come to mind.
- Action Girl - Most female characters.
- Aerith and Bob - You can name your character almost anything, leading to this.
- The Ageless - Dragons and vampires.
- All There in the Manual - The game's wiki includes information on the races, classes, locations, and everything else a player needs to know.
- And the Adventure Continues - The nature of the game means new things are always happening. Always.
- An Ice Person - Cryomancy. Examples include Emilia and Xzavior.
- Ascended Fanboy - Outside of Sven, the game's owner, all the admin started as regular players.
- Asskicking Leads to Leadership - Only the strongest may rule Frostmaw.
- Badass Preacher - The Priest class.
- The Bad Guy Wins - Macon succeeds in framing Kelovath for the mass murders HE committed, became King of Larket, and even married Kelovath's lover.
- Bar Brawl - Used to be a nightly occurrence in Kelay Tavern. Still happens on occasion, but not nearly so much.
- Beast Man - The Feline race can range from Little Bit Beastly to full-on bipedal panthers, while Fermin are small humanoid rats.
- Beneath the Earth - Trist'oth and the Underdark, the drow realm. Also Craughmoyle, the dwarven city.
- Beware the Nice Ones - Even the nicest characters can and will kick ass when push comes to shove. One notable is Hildegarde, the epitome of knightly chivalry and compassion, who stormed a city and ripped a man's throat out for kidnapping Josleen.
- Bodyguarding a Badass - Hildegarde, the Warrior Queen of Frostmaw, has a Queensguard.
- Crapsack World - Something is always going wrong somewhere in Lithrydel. Always.
- Fantastic Racism - It was bound to happen. The "evil" races generally get it the worst, especially the drow and fermin.
- Fighter, Mage, Thief - There are actually several varieties of each class to choose from. Warriors, Knights, Paladins, Death Knights, Mages, Illusionists, Necromancers, Druids, Thieves, and Assassins, among others.
- Half-Human Hybrid / Non-Human Humanoid Hybrid- Nearly any race can mate with nearly any other... but their offspring will be sterile, preventing Uneven and Heinz Hybrids.
- Lovable Coward - Pilar, who is basically Fluttershy in vampire form.
- Magic Music - The specialty of the Bard class.
- Magocracy - The de facto leader of Xalious Village is the Archmage of the Mage's Guild, since that's where it's based, and no one has come along to try and change it (except Josleen, whose attempts were derailed by the summoning of an Eldritch Abomination).
- Medieval European Fantasy - The main setting of Hollow. Granted, there's nothing stopping you from making a character that hails from a Fantasy Counterpart Culture of any realm of your choosing. The geography of the planet outside Lithrydel is vague for that very reason.
- My Species Doth Protest Too Much / Token Heroic Orc - You can find drow, vampires, orcs, and other "villainous" races on the side of good.
- Our Dwarves Are All the Same
- Our Vampires Are Different - They can walk in sunlight and the typical anti-vampire tools like crosses and garlic have no effect. However, dragon's blood has poisonous/corrosive properties to them.
- Outside-Context Problem - The invading Preklek force, a bunch of reptilian aliens who ripped open a portal into Hollow... Twice.
- Plucky Girl - Josleen may not be a powerful warrior or mage, but that doesn't stop her from running into a city of hostile giants to steal medical supplies.
- Significant Green-Eyed Redhead - There are so many. SO. MANY.
- Who Names Their Kid "Dude"? - Generally averted, as badly named characters are sent to the Stupid Name Room and the players made to create a new character.
- Winged Humanoid - Avians, along with some draconians and dragons-in-human-form.
- World of Badass - Most player characters can kick some sort of ass. Even the Non Action Guys tend to be resourceful and brave.
