The Twins is a mobile horror game developed and released by Dennis Vukanovic (commonly known as DVloper). the same person who made the Slendrina and Granny games. The premise is that you play as a thief who has been offered a pardon for their crimes if they can reclaim three stolen items that are being held by the infamous twins Bob and Buck, who are hiding out in an abandoned prison. The player must infiltrate the prison and reclaim the artifacts while avoiding Bob and Buck.

An update added Granny and Grandpa as optional guest characters.

Tropes:

  • Acrofatic: In Extreme mode where the villains are at their fastest, Bob becomes this, as he is no slower than Buck despite his overweight condition.
  • Agony of the Feet: Bob and Buck can get caught in Granny's bear-traps, which will disable them temporarily.
  • Alliterative Family: Twins Bob and Buck.
  • Alternate Continuity: The Guest Mode is set in a different continuity from the main game, as Granny and Grandpa are present despite not canonically being part of the Twins universe.
  • Bald of Evil: Unlike Buck, Bob has no hair on his head at all.
  • Beauty Equals Goodness: Inverted. The twins are as ugly as their souls, with long noses, Pointy Ears, stretched lips, sunken eyes, and brown skin, making them resemble goblins. This extends to their clothes. Both of their clothes are extremely dirty, with Buck's shirt also being ripped in places. Bob is even uglier than Buck, having an abnormally shaped head, more exaggerated facial features, and being bald and fat.
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: Bob and Buck are a duo who both serve as the main antagonists. If you play on "Guest mode", Granny and Grandpa are added, making it a Big Bad Quadrumvirate.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: Bob and Buck have a giant man-eating pet Hercules beetle in the catacombs of their prison.
  • Big Eater: Bob complains about how hungry he is. Considering how fat he is, this is an obvious joke about how fat people are big eaters and constantly hungry.
  • Black-and-Grey Morality: The protagonist is a thief who has been stealing things all their life and is only helping recover stolen items to earn a pardon for their own crimes. They still have the moral ground over Bob and Buck though, who are not only robbers, but also murderous cannibals.
  • Brains and Brawn: Bob is the brawn, being the larger one who can turn large cogs with his bare hands and being Dumb Muscle that can be tricked into drinking coffee laced with rat poison, while Buck is the brains, speaking in a less moronic voice and likely being the one who did most of the work reconfiguring an abandoned prison into their hideout.
  • Creepy High-Pitched Voice: In contrast to the Simpleton Voice of Bob, Buck speaks in a more creepy voice that is unusually high pitched for an adult man.
  • Crossover: Playing on "Guest mode" adds Granny and Grandpa from two of the developer's previous games. The developer has stated that the Twins game is set in a different continuity from the Granny and Slendrina games, meaning they don't canonically exist in the same setting.
  • The Dog Bites Back: Unlike in most cases involving a Brains and Brawn duo where the brains abuses the brawn, here, the brawn is not afraid to strike back. In one ending, after Buck smacks Bob over the head, nonverbally blaming him for the player's escape, Bob retaliates by slamming his mallet into Buck's face.
  • Dumb Muscle: Bob is clearly stronger than Buck, being able to knock him out cold with a blow from his mallet and turn large cogwheels with his bare hands. His strength is emphasized in that when he hits you, your vision spins, something that doesn't happen with the other enemies. However, he is very stupid. He speaks in a Simpleton Voice, refuses to search one of the jail cells, spends less time searching a spot than Buck, and can be tricked into drinking coffee laced with rat poison despite the coffee turning green.
  • Evil Duo: Bob and Buck form a Fat and Skinny Brains and Brawn duo of murderous, cannibalistic robbers.
  • Evil Laugh: Buck has a low, creepy, sinister chuckle, contrasting with the Un Evil Laugh of Bob.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: Bob has a very deep voice, contrasting with the Creepy High-Pitched Voice of Buck.
  • Fall Damage: You take damage by falling from too high. Depending on how high the drop is, you either take a small portion of damage and get back up, or suffer a full knockout and wake up in another location.
  • Fat and Skinny: Bob and Buck, respectively.
  • Fat Idiot: Bob is the fat Dumb Muscle of the twins' Fat and Skinny Brains and Brawn dynamic. He is a portly man with a shirt that fails to cover his belly, and he speaks in a Simpleton Voice and is foolish enough to drink coffee that has suddenly turned green.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Buck will sometimes playfully ask the player "You want to play?"
  • Four Is Death: In the Guest Mode, Granny and Grandpa are added to the game, giving you four antagonists (five if you count the giant beetle)
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: If you kill the giant beetle, there is still a chance you can receive the game-over where you are eaten by it.
  • Gonk: Bob and Buck are severely deformed, with long noses, pointed ears, an unnatural skin tone, sunken eyes, stretched lips, and in Bob's case, an oddly shaped head. Bob especially because of his more exaggerated features.
  • Green Around the Gills: Bob's whole head will turn green upon drinking the rat poison.
  • Harder Than Hard: Extreme Mode with guests activated will leave you with four killers who are all faster than you. Unless you have the Slendrina Mask, it will be a very difficult game.
  • Hollywood Law: There is no way the government would send a thief to reclaim stolen items from two more far more dangerous criminals. In reality, if they knew where the criminals were hiding out, they would sent a police team to arrest them and reclaim the items themselves.
  • Icy Blue Eyes: Buck has blue eyes, contrasting with the brown eyes of Bob, and is the more sadistic of the two.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: One game-over has Bob and Buck preparing to cook and eat the player. In Guest Mode, Granny and Grandpa being present in the game-over indicates that Grandpa is a cannibal just like the others.
  • Jerkass: Buck is abusive to Bob and is noticeably more of a Sadist, what with his more sinister lines and taunts toward the player. Of course, Bob is still a robber, a murderer, and a cannibal, so he's hardly better.
  • Made of Iron: The player can survive falling from over 20 feet and being caught in a dynamite explosion.
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: Downplayed. Bob is clearly the stronger twin, as demonstrated with his knocking Buck out in a single blow in one ending after Buck provokes him and his being able to turn large cogwheels with his bare hands in a game-over. However, the spindly Buck is still able to Neck Lift the player with one arm.
  • Must Have Caffeine: Bob really likes coffee. One of his lines is "I want coffee", and he can occasionally take sips from the mug in the kitchen. You can temporarily kill him by lacing his coffee with rat poison.
  • Never My Fault: Buck blames Bob for the player's escape in two of the endings and assaults him. One of these endings results in Bob smashing his mallet into Buck's face.
  • No Brows: Just barely subverted. Bob and Buck each have a single, easy to mess grey brow over their left eye.
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: Bob may be incredibly stupid and less sadistic than Buck, but he's still a murderous cannibal who expresses no remorse for his actions, and what he lacks in brains he makes up for in brawn. He is strong enough to turn large cogwheels with his bare hands, and when he hits you with his mallet, the blow is so strong it literally sends your vision spinning.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: If you play with "Guest mode" on, you can obtain a mask of Slendrina's face, which will fool the enemies, who cannot tell the actual ghost of Slendrina apart from a living human wearing a mask of her face. It's quite astonishing that Slendrina's own grandparents cannot see through the disguise. This may be justified somewhat by the implications throughout the games that Granny, Grandpa, and the twins all have poor eyesight, seeing how they fail to notice things right in front of them. However, if you stand right next to any of the enemies for five seconds, they will eventually see through it and attack you. The mask has no effect on the beetle, which either isn't fooled or doesn't know Slendrina.
  • Plasma Cannon: You can find one in the prison and use it against the enemies. It is incredibly powerful, being able to not only kill the enemies, but launch their bodies around the rooms. It can One-Hit Kill the giant beetle. Unfortunately, it can damage you with the recoil if not properly fired. On Guest Mode, a possible game-over has Granny shooting you with it and killing you.
  • Police Are Useless: The police know where the twins are hiding out but have not arrested them. They cut a deal with another criminal to reclaim the stolen items, without making any effort to reclaim them themselves or better yet arrest them.
  • Press Start to Game Over: At the beginning, you are given a choice between either accepting or rejecting your mission. If you pick no, the game not only ends but closes out.
  • Shorter Means Smarter: Buck is only a couple of inches shorter than Bob, but he's noticeably more intelligent; searching a spot longer than Bob, keeping the key to the sewer cage, checking inside a dark cell Bob will not check, speaking in a less moronic and more creepy voice, and not being foolish enough to drink from the obviously poisoned coffee.
  • Siblings in Crime: Bob and Buck are twin brothers who rob, murder, and cannibalize.
  • Smart Jerk and Nice Moron: Heavily downplayed. Bob and Buck are both murderous cannibals who make a living as robbers, but Buck is noticeably more sadistic and seems to enjoy hunting the player more than Bob judging by his more sinister lines and Evil Laugh. Buck is also shown to be abusive to Bob, even going as far as to taser him and make him fall off the roof in one ending. Bob is more concerned with eating and drinking coffee, seeming to view hunting the player more as a chore.
  • Tampering with Food and Drink: You can lace Bob's coffee with rat poison to temporarily kill him. He will still drink it even though the coffee visibly turns a sickly green color.
  • Tough Beetles: If you shoot the giant beetle, you will get a message commenting on its strength and how it will take more shots to kill it.
  • Un Evil Laugh: Bob has a deep, muffled, stupid sounding laugh, contrasting with the more creepy laugh of Buck.
  • Villainous Friendship: In "Guest mode", Bob and Buck are good friends of Granny and Grandpa, who are visiting them when you arrive and will help them try to catch and kill you.
  • Wings Do Nothing: Despite having wings, the giant beetle cannot fly.
