The tree (not shown: lower rows).

The Tree of Nerfs is an Idle Game made in The Modding Tree by downvoid and released in 2020. It starts with you producing points at a decreasing rate, which you then use to reset the "S" node and buy upgrades with prestige points. New nodes then show up which reset the previous ones and can be used for new upgrades are added below, but the tree doesn't branch out elsewhere.

Compare to The Prestige Chain, another linear TMT game that offers more content and is more grounded in terms of gameplay.

This game provides examples of:

  • Deconstruction Game: For Prestige Tree, by making its tree aspects superfluous and only having one node per row, which causes the game to become extremely linear. Even the upgrade names and costs are almost always the same.
  • End-Game Results Screen: The ending screen shows how long it took you to beat the game.
  • Export Save: You can export the 2KB+ savefile into the clipboard and paste it into a window that pops up.
  • LOL, 69: The last upgrade of every layer costs 69 points of the layer related to it, while the seventh upgrade in the Mega Prestige Point layer raises all Hyper Prestige Point effects to the 6969.
  • New Game Plus: Claiming points in every new tree layer resets all previous ones. That said, certain upgrades let you keep previous upgrades or produce points every second, making resetting superfluous.
  • Running Gag: The upgrade names always spell out "Remove The Softcaps And Unlock A New Layer".
  • The Very Definitely Final Dungeon: You know the ultra prestige points layer is the last one, as the upgrades spell out "Remove The Softcaps And Finish Tree Of Nerfs".
