assassins for leadership.

The Jedi now outlawed,
a lone scientist searches
for their legendary general,
Revan, whose return could
restore the ancient order.

Meanwhile, on the edge of
the galaxy, the darkest
power ever created by the
force lingers. Soon, it will
return and remind the
galaxy what the dark side
truly is...

The Jedi Masters mod is a mod for Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. The mod is set 10 years after the events of KOTOR 2, considering the events of Star Wars: The Old Republic non-canon. Between KOTOR 2 and this mod, the power of the Republic split between five factions: The Republic, The Droids (HK-47's faction), The Company, The Exchange, and Czerka. The Doctor must work to get the Republic, HK-47, and the Company to cooperate in order to find Revan, and ultimately prepare for the D'arth Syyth invasion - the "True Sith" mentioned in KOTOR 2.

The mod can be downloaded here.

Spoilers from the KOTOR series will be unmarked.

The Jedi Masters provide examples of:

  • Aborted Arc: What happened to Nihilus's mask when it was taken by Nadd worshippers?
    • Averted if the player goes the dark side route and Nadd becomes the player's master. He will give you a quest to use the mask to revive Darth Nihilus. Played straight if the player remains on the light side.
  • A God Am I: When Kannos is taken by the D'arth Syyth, he begins to rant that his scream will destroy the galaxy.
  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: A droid affected by a mysterious signal killed most of the Eagle's previous crew. If the player encounters the droid and decides to interact with it, the droid will either malfunction and attack or remember its actions and request the player to kill it.
  • Ancient Astronauts: The D'arth Syyth is responsible for creating the first Sith with its first scream.
  • And the Adventure Continues: Two possibilities, depending on whether the D'arth Syyth was destroyed:
    • If the D'arth Syyth survived, the D'arth Syyth and its fleet move to consume another galaxy.
    • If the D'arth Syyth was destroyed, Bastila and other surviving Jedi work to rebuild the Jedi Order, with the lingering threat of the rise of another, but less destructive Sith Lord.
  • And Now for Someone Completely Different: During the final battle, control switches between several characters so they may complete their missions. Most of these are player characters or companions from previous games.
    • For most of the game, the player controls the main Player Character of the game, the Doctor.
    • The player controls Revan when he is fighting Kannos.
    • The player controls Bastila when fighting one of the D'arths.
    • The player controls HK-47 when he and Canderous are searching for a special switch that will activate HK-47's secret robot army under Coruscant.
    • The player controls either Tsig or the Shadow when holding the line against Syyth invaders and one of the D'arths.
    • The player controls Ootataa when he reveals himself to be a Force user, killing a nearby storm beast.
    • The player controls the Exile when fighting through the Syyth to reach the Senate, fighting one of the D'arths.
  • Anyone Can Die: Many characters protected by Plot Armor had it promptly rescinded in this mod.
    • In all endings, Dodanna, Supreme Chancellor Cressa, and all the Senators are killed by the Syyth. Kannos is killed either by destroying the D'arth Syyth or by another to take control of the D'arth Syyth.
    • If Kreia is killed, her killer can take control of the D'arth Syyth. This can be either Revan or the Doctor. If their attempt to take control of the D'arth Syyth is successful, the new D'arth Syyth host will die destroying the D'arth Syyth.
    • If Revan kills Kreia but a Dark Side Doctor takes control of the D'arth Syyth, EVERYONE dies except for the Doctor, their apprentices, Canderous, surviving Syyth, and the Doctor's love interest.
  • Apocalypse How: Should the D'arth Syyth succeed, an Class X-3 apocalypse shall occur, ending all life in the Galaxy and the Force.
  • Apocalyptic Log: Dodanna sends one to the Senate shortly before her ship is blown up by Kannos.
  • Artificial Limbs: After the events of KOTOR 2, Czerka tried to make augmentations that could mimic Jedi abilities. However, the project was a failure - the augmentations would sometimes explode, with only a few survivors, such as Tsig.
  • Big Bad: The D'arth Syyth. Once Kannos is taken by the D'arth Syyth, he takes this role.
  • Black Cloak: D'arth Syyth screamers wear black cloaks, contrasting with their albino skin color.
  • Black Speech: The D'arth Syyth itself communicates in a variety of screams and whispers. This can be weaponized by screamers in combat.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: This happen to Kannos upon being taken by the D'arth Syyth. He can break the brainwashing during the Golden Ending.
  • Brown Note: Most who encounter the D'arth Syyth become screamers. Only a few still manage to retain their minds. According to D'arth D'nath, Kannos' mind is evil enough to become a host for the D'arth Syyth.
  • Call-Forward: Shenna Rand thinks that Supreme Chancellor Cressa may be an evil mastermind playing the Republic - an allusion to the Star Wars Prequel series.
  • The Cameo: Sion's spirit makes a brief appearance during Ulic Qel-Droma's quest. The player must defeat him on Korriban to complete their Jedi training.
  • Cannon Fodder: The Protos. HK-47 has been running out of materials to continue building his droid army, so older droids have been put back into service to serve as cannon fodder.
  • Clone Angst: Averted. Although Kreia is a clone of the original, she has no opinion about being a clone. However, she reveals near the end of the game that she is rotting and will die soon, so she has limited concern with how the ending plays out.
  • Clone Degeneration: Kreia is a clone of the original, and she reveals near the end of the game that she is rotting while alive and will die soon.
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: Czerka. Since they became large enough to no longer comply with Republic regulations, they are effectively uninhibited in what they dare to do.
  • Death Seeker: Revan admits to this if he survives the ending.
  • Deal with the Devil: The D'arth Syyth can grant destructive power Sith Lords can only dream of. However, the host does not only need to be strong enough to host the D'arth Syyth, the D'arth Syyth will also slowly kill its host. The host of the Big Bad in the mod mentions that holding the D'arth Syyth burns, and understands he may not survive long if he wins.
  • Dream Walker: Kannos can do this when he is taken by the D'arth Syyth.
  • Eldritch Abomination: The D'arth Syyth.
  • Empty Shell: Revan explains that screamers are this - only the dark side and the D'arth Syyth keep them functioning.
  • End of an Age: Regardless of how the mod ends, the KOTOR era is over, considering the galaxy is either focusing on rebuilding from the war with the D'arth Syyth and the conflicts from previous games in the series or outright destroyed.
  • Enemy Civil War: This is how Kannos took over Hulas' GenoHaradan. When plotting with the GenoHaradan leaders against Hulas, he made the heads extremely paranoid of each other, resulting in infighting. Hulas himself was finished off by Kannos when the other GenoHaradan leaders were all dead.
    • There is another small one between the Nadd Worshippers and the D'arth Syyth.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Kannos upon being taken by the D'arth Syyth.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: The D'arth Syyth is this to the whole Star Wars franchise, considering it is the ultimate master of the Sith.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: Kreia joins your party temporarily when visiting Revan's last known location.
  • Guide Dang It!: Getting the Golden Ending as well as the Dark Side endings.
    • First, the player must have recruited at least one apprentice.
    • Secondly, the player should have done Kannos' personal mission.
    • Thirdly, the player must have a high number of light side points.
    • During the final battle the player must tell Carth to let the apprentice join the Doctor for boarding the Nemesis.
    • When on the Nemesis, the player must stand in front of Revan to prevent Kreia from being killed.
    • While fighting through the Nemesis alone, the player must tell Freedon Nadd and Ulic Qel-Droma that their suggestions are both wrong, with the correct solution being finding Kannos and redeem him, with an apprentice staying behind to secure the escape pods.
    • While fighting the Big Bad as the Doctor, the player should remind Kannos of Nizzal and generally say light side responses.
    • Once this is done, the Golden Ending shall commence.
    • For the Dark Side endings, the Doctor has to let Revan kill Kreia, then agree with Freedon Nadd when he appears assuming you've completed his questline beforehand. If the player kills Kreia themselves, you're automatically locked into the Heroic Sacrifice path.
  • Have You Seen My God?: The D'arth Syyth is searching for a powerful warrior to serve as a host. Its servants start by raiding Freedon Nadd's tomb, but his spirit already escaped. They try to use Revan, but he has been successfully evading the D'arth Syyth, avoiding known space to prevent contact with other potential hosts. They succeed with Kannos, however.
  • Heel–Face Turn: D'arth Dnekk - otherwise known as D'arth Vimack or Rimi - can join the light side if she is reminded that Vima Sunrider is her mother.
    • Kannos can agree to destroy the D'arth Syyth during the Golden Ending.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: If the D'arth Syyth is destroyed, Revan, the Doctor, or Kannos can die destroying it.
  • How the Mighty Have Fallen: The Dxun Mandalorians are in an even worse position than how they were at the start of KOTOR 2. Only seven Mandalorians remain (six when one is killed by the Shadow), half the base is taken over by jungle life, and all the means to leave the moon were taken by leaving Mandalorians.
  • I Am the Trope: Kannos, once taken by the D'arth Syyth, considers himself to be the one and only True Sith. If spoken to, Revan seems to agree with this - he claims that only the host of the D'arth Syyth is the True Sith.
  • "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: This happens when the Doctor fights Kannos during the Golden Ending.
  • It's Quiet… Too Quiet: The Jedi rush to Rhen Var to intercept and defeat the D'arth Syyth threat. The D'arth Syyth never arrive at Rhen Var. Instead, Kannos attacks Coruscant, sending a transmission to the Jedi mocking them for thinking he would be raiding a notable Jedi planet to further the Syyth cause.
  • Keystone Army: If the host of the D'arth Syyth dies, the D'arth Syyth fleet retreats back to the edge of the galaxy. However, if the D'arth Syyth detects another suitable host, it will attempt to take over the potential host instead.
  • Large Ham: When Kannos is taken by the D'arth Syyth, he becomes considerably more hammy.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Ulic Qel-Droma returns as a Force Ghost, but can barely remember his past. He can still help the Doctor learn to be a Jedi, however.
    • Kreia as well. However, since this Kreia is a clone of the original, she understandably doesn't remember much from the events of KOTOR 2.
  • Lovable Coward: Mortlan was selected as Kannos' second in command for this very reason - Mortlan can easily be bullied into doing what Kannos wants. This becomes trouble when Dak uses Mortlan for taking over the GenoHaradan.
  • Make Me Wanna Shout: D'arth Syyth soldiers use screaming as a method of attack.
  • Monster Progenitor: The D'arth Syyth is the progenitor of the first Sith.
  • Mook Maker: Plumes of red with red lightning can create or transport D'arth Syyth troops.
  • Multiple Endings: Several, ranging from a Downer Ending to a Golden Ending.
    • Golden Ending: In the happiest ending, Kannos sacrifices himself to destroy the D'arth Syyth, allowing all other major non-Syyth characters to survive the game's events.
    • Downer Ending: In the most pessimistic ending, only the Syyth, the Doctor, and the Doctor's love interest survive. After consuming the galaxy, the D'arth Syyth moves on to find another galaxy to consume.
    • Bittersweet Ending: Either the Doctor or Revan die upon destroying the D'arth Syyth upon becoming the new host for the D'arth Syyth after killing Kannos. There's also the Dark Side equivalent where the Doctor retains control of the D'arth Syyth and turns The Republic into a sixth Sith Empire, killing everyone but their love interest, apprentices, and Canderous with Darth Nihilus serving as The Dragon.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: Kannos proves to be one of these. He tricks the Jedi into defending Rhen Var, even pulling in most of the Republic fleet, due to the importance of Rhen Var as a Jedi world and information from Dodanna about Kannos' next destinaion. Turns out Kannos attacked Coruscant instead, mocking the Jedi in a transmission for thinking their defense of Rhen Var wasn't according to plan.
  • No-Sell: HK-47 can walk through force fields. This becomes helpful when the Eagle crew is captured by D'arth D'nath - HK-47 simply walks through the cell's force field and turns off security.
  • The Man Behind the Man: Dak serves as this when Mortlan is in charge of the GenoHaradan.
  • Mythology Gag: During the final battle, Carth and Atton argue over who should fly the Eagle. Both point out that the other crashed the Ebon Hawk. T3-M4 offers to pilot, since T3-M4 never crashed the Ebon Hawk, causing Atton and Carth to agree to flying the Eagle together.
  • Obstructive Bureaucrat: Kannos accuses the Senate of being this, shortly before he orders them all killed.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: The D'arth Syyth, its servants, and Kannos starting from the second act. Any hosts taken by the D'arth Syyth also gain this trait.
  • Opportunistic Bastard: While Kannos was stranded on Dxun at the start of the mod, Dak took over the GenoHaradan with Mortlan as a puppet.
  • Palette Swap: Many of the maps from KOTOR 2 have been recolored and reused for other locations in the mod.
  • Player Character: The Doctor.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Freedon Nadd tolerates a player choosing the light side over the dark side, since he is mainly concerned with strengthening the Doctor instead of forcing an ideology.
  • Pretext for War: HK-47 hires the Shadow to attack Kannos at the start of the game, beginning a war between his faction, the Republic, and the Company.
  • Ramming Always Works: The Ebon Hawk is used to ram the D'arth Syyth flagship Nemesis. The occupants get on board the ship, but the Ebon Hawk is destroyed by the ramming.
  • Religion of Evil: The Nadd Worshippers.
  • The Remnant: Although not mentioned, the D'arth Syyth is heavily implied to be an Infinite Empire construct originally maintained by several Rakatans and their slave species. Near the end of the game, a player can catch a glimpse of the D'arth Syyth speaking in a Rakatan form, and D'arth D'nath is a mutated Rakatan, mentioned to have "waited the longest" at the start of the game. Revan also states that the D'arth Syyth has existed for at least 30 thousand years, which would place its creation date within the time the Infinite Empire existed.
  • The Schlub Pub Seduction Deduction: How Dak is dealt with. The player hires a Twi'lek to lure Dak into a good location, where the Shadow is waiting to kill him. The Twi'lek herself can optionally be killed afterwards.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Most of the Dxun Mandalorians from KOTOR 2 have abandoned Canderous and become independent due to a lack of enemies to fight. The Mandalorians can be brought back together to fight the D'arth Syyth, but they will not have the same projection of power they once had in KOTOR 2.
  • Spot the Imposter: During the first act, HK-47 sends the player to find out which three droids are spying on him.
  • Start My Own: HK-47 used the HK-50 factory from KOTOR 2 to make a HK-51 army, forming his own faction on one of M4-78's moons.
  • Taking You with Me: This is how the D'arth Syyth can be destroyed permanently. If a D'arth Syyth host chooses to use the D'arth Syyth's destructive power to destroy itself and the Syyth fleet, the D'arth Syyth will be defeated forever. However, this will also kill the host. Revan prefers to do the honors, but the Doctor can choose to become the host to destroy the D'arth Syyth instead.
  • Team Killer: Kannos executes D'arth D'nath during the battle with Dodanna.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Kannos has the worst companion starting stats in the game. Once he is taken by the D'arth Syyth, he can take on Revan reasonably well on his own.
  • The Unfought: D'arth D'nath, the Rakatan Syyth, is killed by Kannos before a player can fight him when Kannos is fighting Dodanna's forces.
  • Utopia Justifies the Means: If spoken to enough, HK-47 can reveal that he desires to invade the Republic so he can implement a new system where everyone works toward a common goal.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Ootataa is a "Force Former", a being that can use the Force to change shape. Ootataa prefers the Jawa form for leading a group of Jawas.
  • Walking Spoiler: Mentioning anything about Kannos after the first act will spoil the fact that he is taken by the D'arth Syyth, becoming its new host.
  • Was Once a Man: The screamers. When they encountered the D'arth Syyth, they were not strong enough to be its host, becoming the insane monsters they now are.
  • We ARE Struggling Together: The main focus of the first act. HK-47's faction, the Company, and the Republic start fighting each other at the beginning, and it falls to the player to make them cooperate in finding Revan.
  • Wham Episode: The first one occurs when the player goes to Revan's last known location, transitioning from the first to second act. Revan is found in a temple on the planet's surface. However, while the Doctor, Bastila, and Kreia are on the surface, the Eagle is attacked and the entire crew is captured. When Revan is brought to the Eagle, the ship is found to be deserted with the exception of a few rakghouls. Upon boarding the Syyth ship, Kannos has been taken by the D'arth Syyth, explaining that he plans to destroy the galaxy. Revan and the Eagle crew, after temporarily defeating Kannos, return to known space to warn the Senate about the D'arth Syyth.
    • The second occurs when the player goes to defend Rhen Var from Kannos, transitioning from the second to third act. With the Jedi thinking Kannos would invade Rhen Var, Kannos instead attacks Coruscant, slaughtering Cressa and all the Senators.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Several.
    • Bao-Dur. He is not seen or mentioned, even though all other KOTOR 2 companions who could become Jedi in a female light-sided Exile playthrough make a return. Considering this and the cut content from KOTOR 2 indicating Bao-Dur dies, he likely died in KOTOR 2 in this continuity.
    • The Exchange. They are one of the five factions, and their only appearance is an embassy on Coruscant. They may have been destroyed by the D'arth Syyth invasion, however.
  • The Worf Effect: The player might not believe the D'arth Syyth to be as powerful as Revan claims, but when Kannos destroys Dodanna's dreadnought effortlessly, the power of the D'arth Syyth is shown to be something conventional weaponry cannot stop.
