The Fading Order: Winds of Change contains examples of:
- Alternate History: Just like The New Order, The Fading Order takes place in a timeline in which The Axis wins World War Two and completely defeats the Allies, establishing its dominance over Europe and Asia.
- The '80s: The game starts in the year 1980 with a world entrenched in a cold war between Nazi Germany, the United States, the Empire of Japan and a resurgent Soviet Union.
