Save Room is a Puzzle Game series by Fractal Projects.
Ah, the save room. In any Survival Horror game, this is the one place you're guaranteed to be safe from the horrors you've faced in wherever it is you've ended up. Here, you can record your progress, get a moment of respite to catch your breath and have a rest from the terrors, and even have a chance to organize your inventory.
In fact, why not make a game out of that last thing?
In this game, you'll need to get all your stuff to fit into your inventory before you leave the save room. This'll involve some rotating, combining things so they use up less space, and using items so they don't take up any space at all.
The original game, subtitled Organization Puzzle, was released on April 28th, 2022. A sequel, subtitled The Merchant, released in July 2023.
Save Room contains examples of:
- Grid Inventory: The object of the game is to get everything to fit into this.
- Handguns: One of the items you need to try to fit into your inventory.
- Inventory Management Puzzle: That's this game in a nutshell.
- Item Crafting: Herbs can be combined into healing potions and gunpowder, the latter of which can be combined into different types of Universal Ammunition.
- Life Meter: Located in the top-left corner of the screen. Lowering/raising it is a way to help get rid of your poisoning/healing items.
- Poison Mushroom: Solving some puzzles requires consuming rotten food in order to take damage, then using healing potions to recover back to full health, removing the items from your inventory.
- Universal Ammunition: Not every gun uses the same type of ammunition, but many do, and all ammo types originate from the herbs that can be combined in different ways.
- Whole-Plot Reference: The Merchant has a plot told between some of its levels that is nearly identical to Resident Evil 4, but with a few parodic twists, such as being assigned to rescue the president's dog instead of daughter.
