Radiant Arc is an RPG Maker MV game developed by Linky317 and Ori in 2019.

The world was created by the Holy Beings, but one of them, Zardon, grew jealous of the leader Irin. He stole his brethren's Grand Crystal and used it to create demonic beings known as Moria, and had them lay waste to the world. In response, Irin chose a hero, the Radiant Arc, to gather allies and seal away Zardon. The Grand Crystal is then split into seven shards for safekeeping. However, the second coming of the Radiant Arc will be needed in order to defeat the Morians, who are now being led by Seperus.

This game contains examples of:

  • 11th-Hour Superpower: When Zardon is revived, he curbstomps the party and nearly kills Linky. However, his pride gets the better of him and he neglects to finish them off, allowing Linky to regenerate himself and unlock more angelic power. Gameplay-wise, this gives Linky a permanent buff that grants him an additional 100% of his base stats.
  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Despite the existence of magic and other fantasy tropes in this setting, Linky refuses to believe in the existence of the Radiant Arc who is destined to save humanity from the Morians, since no such hero arrived to save his mother and hometown. Ironically, he is the second coming of the Radiant Arc.
  • Best Her to Bed Her: Played with. Miyuki claims that Lumi's ancestor defeated her in battle both to acquire a sword to protect his people from the cold and to make her his wife. At first, she makes it sound like she only agreed out of respect for his strength, but she later reveals that she genuinely loved him.
  • Big Bad: Zardon is the main antagonist of the game, being a rogue Holy Being who wants to enslave his brethren's creation with his army of demonic Morians. While he spends most of the game sealed, it's revealed that he planned around this by separating a part of himself as Seperus, who spends a millennium planning how to best steal the Grand Crystal shards in order to undo the seal.
  • Cap:
    • Stats other than HP and MP are capped at 999. This is true even with buffs applied, meaning there are decreasing returns for stacking too many buffs.
    • The party's level cap is 50, though enemies can reach level 51 due to the scaling mechanic.
  • Cast from Hit Points: Derek is based on the traditional Final Fantasy Dark Knight in that he can sacrifice HP to deal high damage to enemies. This is balanced by his ability to add Lifesteal to his attacks, allowing him to recover the cost of his abilities if he does enough damage.
  • Chick Magnet: Tamotsu gains the affections of Lumi, Undyne, and Salamandra, with all three of them fighting over his affection. In the ending, he has children with all of them.
  • Cock Fight:
    • In an unnamed village on the Yeion continent, Richard has to fight Jono, a corrupt paladin who thinks he's entitled to have Carrie.
    • After joining the Morians, Derek becomes a Yandere who wants to kill Linky and keep Lexie all to himself. Eventually, he kidnaps Lexie and takes her to the Chaos Tower, and duels Linky on the top floor.
  • Developer's Room: The Mysterious House is where the developers' in-game avatars are headquartered. This place includes various artworks and several bonus bosses, including the lead developer, Danny.
  • Devour the Dragon: After Kagan loses to the party, Seperus devours him against his will. After Zardon is revived in his base form, Seperus allows Zardon to devour him.
  • Doppelgänger Attack: In all of his boss battles, Kagan fights alongside several copies of himself. The enemy names don't give away which one is real, though the real one always has more HP.
  • The Dragon: Seperus is the leader of the Morians and seeks to gather the fragments of the Grand Crystal in order to unseal his master, Zardon. He's a part of Zardon that the latter split off from himself for the purpose of learning how to best defeat Irin's Guild of Light while growing stronger. That way, Zardon will become as strong and intelligent as possible after reabsorbing Seperus.
  • Duel Boss:
    • In the Ice Cave, Linky is forced to fight a nameless armored swordsman by himself. The swordsman is actually Derek, who threw his lot in with the Morians out of jealousy towards Linky for becoming the Radiant Arc. He is fought in one more duel in the Chaos Tower, where he's much stronger and victory is optional.
    • The paladin, Jono, tries to forcefully take Carrie as his wife, resulting in Richard fighting him in a one-on-one Cock Fight. Surprisingly, Jono goes down in only a few hits despite Richard being a Support Party Member with limited offensive capabilities.
  • Emotion Suppression: Deconstructed. Tamotsu and Undyne trained themselves to be unemotional because they believe emotions will get in the way of their duty of guarding the Aquamarine shard. However, Tamotsu realizes that this caused Undyne to lack the willpower to resist Seperus's control, since she didn't develop feelings of camaraderie with Twilight Village. Tamotsu also reveals that he originally became the Vessel of Twilight and sacrificed his emotions in order to become strong enough to protect his loved ones, but eventually forgot about his loved ones due to his lost emotions.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Taima is the Token Evil Teammate of the spirits, since she enjoys being under the Morian's control and unleashing thunder as she likes. However, she does care for Venilia and is angered that the party killed her.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Seperus's sword tries to convince Derek to brainwash Lexie into loving him. Derek is appalled by that idea because he still respects Lexie's free will and plans to get rid of the sword after he defeats Linky so that the sword doesn't corrupt him enough to do that.
  • Evil Counterpart: Seperus turns out to be a Foil to Linky. Linky is the son of Irin's human avatar while Seperus is a Morian created from Zardon's very being. Both are meant to be the primary agents of their deities, but while Linky loves Irin as a mother and isn't afraid to criticize her, Seperus is completely deferential to Zardon because he is merely a piece of his creator rather than his own person.
  • Fallen Angel: Zardon was once one of the Holy Beings, the gods who created the world. However, he turned against the others out of jealousy towards Irin and spitefully created the Moria to destroy the gods' creation. The player never gets to see Zardon's original angelic form, though his Final Boss form has black wings to hint at what he used to look like.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Seperus puts on an air of politeness and flattery when he first speaks to the party by complimenting them for their strength, but also makes sure to rub in that he killed Linky's mother. After Kagan loses to the party for the final time, Seperus states that he'll save Kagan and seems to show sympathy towards his minion, but then devours Kagan in order to use the latter's energy to help revive Zardon.
  • Fighting from the Inside: Seperus takes control of all six elemental spirits one last time and has them attack the party all at the same time. Fortunately, Terra manages to resist his influence long enough to trap herself, Taima, and Venilia on one side of an earth wall, allowing the party to fight only three at a time.
  • Glass Cannon: Lexie and Lumi have high physical attack and agility, but low HP and defenses. This is even more true if the player places them in the front row, boosting their attack and speed but making them more likely to be targeted by close-range attacks.
  • Heel–Face Turn: No matter the outcome of the second duel with Derek, Lexie will convince him to believe in humanity's ability to defeat the Morians. However, Seperus and Kagan nearly kill him and the party, resulting in all the shards of the Grand Crystal falling in their hands. After awakening, Derek joins the party to atone for helping the Morians.
  • Hopeless Boss Fight: The first battle with Seperus will automatically end after several turns in case the player survives his onslaught. Whether or not there are any party members still standing, the following cutscene shows the entire party beaten within an inch of their lives.
  • Hot Springs Episode: Once the players returns to Valeria after the boss fight with Miyuki, the party takes a break in the hot springs. Unsurprisingly, Richard tries to peek over the divider between the men and women sides while Linky tries to stop him, complete with a CG. When the divider falls, Richard tries to blame Linky, but all the men present are blamed, except for Ryder who bailed moments earlier.
  • Hypocrite Has a Point: Derek calls out Linky for being rude to Lexie whenever they discuss the Radiant Arc. While he has a point that Linky should treat Lexie better, Derek has been a Jerkass and a bully to both of them for all 5 years of their stay in Dewhill. Linky seems to realize the truth behind Derek's words and feels bad for yelling at Lexie, though he refuses to apologize about dissing the Radiant Arc.
  • In-Universe Game Clock: The game has a 24 hour clock where strong enemies spawn at night and certain events can only happen in certain timeframes. However, there's no calendar system, which means there aren't events that happen on specific dates.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: At the start of the game, it's clear that Derek is jealous that Lexie is giving Linky so much attention, which is why he bullies Linky and looks down on the latter for being weaker. In the present, he's easily defeated by a Minotaur while Linky succeeds by awakening his powers as the Radiant Arc, causing Derek to lose faith in himself now that Linky surpassed him. This causes him to join the Morians both to prove himself stronger than Linky and because he's projecting his fear of his weakness on the rest of humanity, believing they're too weak to oppose the demons.
  • Insecure Love Interest: Richard flirts with other women because he feels that he isn't good enough for Carrie. At the same time, his flirting causes Carrie to think he's only being her friend out of pity. Fortunately, they open up to each other about this if the party visits Ansel.
  • Jack of All Stats: Linky has a balanced stat distribution compared to the other playable characters. His unique passive stat-boosting skill, Radiant Arc's Spirit, increases all of his stats equally while everyone else's unique passive focuses on stats they already have high growths in.
  • Late Character Syndrome:
    • After the player gains access to passive stat skills, newer party members like Tamotsu, Gabe, and Nuria can be hard to use immediately because the player will need to wait for them to accumulate enough AP to learn their passive stat skills and better active skills. Otherwise, they'll likely fall behind the older party members.
    • Derek is a downplayed example despite joining last. He already has all of his active skills and only needs to learn his passive skills, meaning he can be made useful faster than other late game party members.
  • Leaked Experience: Reserve party members get full EXP, which is fortunate because there are 12 playable characters and 6 party member slots.
  • Level Scaling: If the player is overleveled for an encounter, the enemies will scale to their level. However, levels for the enemies only improve their offensive stats and no other stats.
  • Loophole Abuse: Seperus used the crystals to force elemental spirits into serving him. They initially have enough freedom to interpret his orders in a way that prevents them from helping the Morians too much, as shown when Venilia receives the order to "support the Morian invasion of Fayol," only to warn travelers to stay away from Fayol for their safety. However, once Seperus gains more crystals, his control over the spirits improves and loopholes no longer work.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father:
    • Linky's mother turns out to be the Goddess Irin's avatar. After Seperus killed her, she returned to Elysium to resume her role as a goddess.
    • The Lich who attacked the Kingdom of Fayol turns out to be Aria's father, who sold out to the Morians to revive his wife, only to fall under their control. If the Requiem sidequests are completed, Aria will exorcise her father at the start of the final dungeon.
  • Mad Bomber: Kagan is an evil jester working for the Morians in order to wipe out humanity, despite once being a human. Almost all of his attacks consist of throwing bombs, some of which can inflict the burn ailment on party members.
  • Mana Burn: Seperus and Zardon specialize in skills that damage the party's MP, making them hard to deal with unless the party has SP regenerating accessories.
  • Mercy Kill:
    • Subverted with the elemental spirits. While the ice and wind spirits want the party to kill them and free them from Morian control, it turns out spirits can't die permanently.
    • If the player completes the Requiem sidequests, Aria will use Holy Embrace to send her father-turned-Lich to the afterlife, freeing him from the Morians' control.
  • Mighty Glacier: Despite having powerful Cast from Hit Points skills, Derek counts as this trope because he can also apply Lifesteal to himself, has decent defenses, and high HP, which allows him to compensate for the costs of his skills. He's also one of the slowest characters so that he's balanced compared to other physical DPS characters.
  • Misery Builds Character. Linky's mother dies in battle against Seperus, but since she's the goddess Irin, she doesn't truly die and instead just returns to Elysium. However, she decided not to tell Linky about this, since she believes he needs to know loss in order to gain the drive to become the Radiant Arc.
  • Monster Clown: Kagan is a jester who takes sadistic pleasure in killing people for the Morians' cause. He's also a literal case, being a former human who was converted into a demon by the Morians.
  • More than Mind Control: Derek accepts the Morians' offer of power and receives Seperus's sword. This sword has a mind of its own and slowly corrupts him by playing on his desire to one-up Linky and keep Lexie for himself.
  • Ninja: Tamotsu is a ninja who focuses on having high speed and evasion stats, along with skills to inflict ailments on enemies and buff evasion. He belongs to a village of ninjas that hides their location from all outsiders, including their allies in case they are ever compromised.
  • Open-Ended Boss Battle: The second battle with Derek doesn't have to be won to continue the story, but winning grants a powerful accessory and a slightly different cutscene.
  • Rare Candy: There are permanent stat increasing books that can be obtained from chests and examining certain bookshelves. There are also "rare" fruits that can permanently increase multiple stats at once.
  • The Red Mage: Along with having a similar hat as a Final Fantasy Red Mage, Linky can use offensive, healing, and support spells without specializing in any of them. He also has a balanced stat growth compared to his more specialized allies.
  • Redemption Demotion: Derek joins the party after the events of Chaos Tower, but due to losing Seperus's evil sword, he's nowhere near as strong as he was in his Duel Boss battle with Linky.
  • Resurrective Immortality: The elemental spirits disperse into magic energy when they die, but they can eventually reassemble their bodies. The shards of the Grand Crystal can speed up this process, which is how Seperus brought them back in the final dungeon. After Zardon is defeated, the party uses the shards to revive the spirits again, this time free of Morian control.
  • Satanic Archetype: Zardon is a Holy Being who rebelled against Irin out of jealousy and commands an army of demons, which he plans on using to enslave humanity just to spite the other Holy Beings. Through his offspring, Seperus, he managed to subvert humans such as Kagan, Derek, and Aria's father to his cause.
  • Semi-Divine: Linky is half-angel due to Irin being his mother. If he sustains near fatal damage and survives, he can regenerate and unlock more of his angelic power. This is a requirement to become the Radiant Arc, since angelic power is required to defeat Zardon. The previous Radiant Arc was a human who was granted angelic power.
  • Squishy Wizard: Aria is a mage with powerful all-hitting spells and an MP stealing spell to make her magic sustainable, but has low defenses.
  • Stone Wall: Terence has low offensive stats and agility, but has high defense and can make enemies more likely to target him.
  • Superior Successor: Irin states Linky has more potential than the previous Radiant Arc. This is because Linky is born of an angel and a human while the previous Radiant Arc was a normal human who was converted into a nephilim, allowing him to unlock more angelic power.
  • Support Party Member: Richard is a bard that focuses on buff and debuff skills. His offensive stats aren't that strong and his higher end offensive skills exist for the same of weakening the enemies' defenses rather than dealing high damage.
  • Then Let Me Be Evil: Kagan was once a Lounan who wanted to figure out a way to control the Morians. When his fellow humans rejected him as a madman, he joined the Morians to get revenge on humanity.
  • Universal Ammunition:
    • Lexie requires arrows in order to fire her bow or use bow skills. However, there is only one type of arrow despite the many bows in the game.
    • Downplayed for Nuria's guns. There are bullets for specific gun types, but that means all guns of the same type can use the same ammo, regardless of their actual chamber size.
  • White Mage: Carrie is a standard healing mage, but with a few twists. Her healing spells buff the target(s) magic defense and she can draw aggro specifically from magic attacks.
  • Worf Had the Flu:
    • Terra the Earth Spirit had to have her magic power weakened in order for the Morians to control her, meaning the party didn't defeat her at her full strength. At the same time, Lexie, Terence, and Aria were bedridden during that fight, meaning the party wasn't at its full strength either.
    • Linky's mother is actually the human avatar of Irin and is still powerful enough to be the guardian of one of the Grand Crystal shards, but she can't access her full divine powers, meaning she doesn't stand a chance against Seperus.
