Misfiction is a short Explorer Horror game by Hatoge, the creator of Ouija Sleepover and Sofia?.

One night, university freshman Rylan Baker is approached by "rich douchebag" John Blanc, a cold man who fancies Rylan. Though his affections are refused, John decides to act out the many Yaoi stories he's read and kidnaps Rylan, certain that Rylan will come to return his affections. Rylan disagrees and begins cooperating with his friend Eugene to escape.

It is followed up by a sequel, Mistrick, taking place after the events of the original game. You now play as John Blanc, who has gotten arrested for the kidnapping of Rylan and finds imself trapped in a strange pocket dimension by Chase Colt, a convicted and executed Serial Killer who's spirit still lingers, wanting to make John his own. A talking doll, Lola, points John to Claire, a giant face on the floor of one room who can transport John back to his world. But she won't do it, because John has bad "vibes". So Lola suggests John start befriending the spirits and helping them out however he can.

    Both Games
  • Cast Full of Gay: Rylan, John, and Eugene are all gay men in a Love Triangle with each other (though one-sided on John's part), while Chase in the sequel is in psychotic love with John. Also, Nini and Rika turn out to be lesbians and hook up by the end. The only non-explicitly gay characters are Lola and the other spirits, who never have their sexuality delved into.

    Misfiction
  • Abduction Is Love: Deconstructed Trope. Yaoi Fanboy John Blanc believes this to be the case and kidnaps Rylan Baker to earn his affection, but Rylan himself rejects the notion and calls John crazy for believing in it.
  • Big Bad: John Blanc, a rich university student, kidnaps Rylan Baker and holds him in his mansion in an attempt to earn Rylan's love.
  • Deconstructed Trope: The summary on the creator's page states that the game "takes a quip at a common BL trope"- that trope being Abduction Is Love. John Blanc, who reads way too much Yaoi where the Fetishized Abuser and Seme kidnaps the Uke, treats them like a Sex Slave, and eventually gains their love because Stockholm Syndrome. He starts thinking this is how romance actually works, and kidnaps Rylan Baker intending to make the scenario come true. Rylan, however, does not appreciate this at all and spends the game trying to escape John's "love" making it clear how twisted this mindset actually is.
  • Mundanger: While Hatoge's other games deal with supernatural threats, here the villain is an ordinary rich guy who believes he is entitled to the protagonist's affection, and kidnaps him, because he read too much Yaoi Genre manga.

    Mistrick
  • Acid-Trip Dimension: The game takes place in a sort-of afterlife where a talking doll is the least odd thing there. Among the odd sights are a playground with a sentient slide and balloons, a taking tree that collects stories, and a giant face on the floor.
  • Big Bad: Chase Colt, the spirit of a convicted Serial Killer, tries to keep John Blanc trapped in the pocket afterlife to torture him for eternity.
  • Lighter and Softer: Despite the dark-sounding premise and gruesome deaths, Mistrick is actually more lighthearted than its predecessor. Misfiction took place in a dark mansion and focused on a man trying to escape a crazy stalker, with the horror elements played mostly straight, while Mistrick takes place in a bright, colorful pocket dimension and focuses more on Surreal Humor, with even the Big Bad Chase being treated more as a joke than a true menace.
  • Ironic Hell: One for both the protagonist and antagonist.
    • John Blanc, the Big Bad of Misfiction, kidnapped Rylan Baker after falling in love with him to force him to return his love. This game begins with him awakening in a pocket afterlife where he himself is now the prisoner of Chase Colt, an executed Serial Killer who wants to show his love for John by torturing him for eternity.
    • Chase himself gets this in the True End. He spends the whole game trying to torment John by any means possible to get him to break and "return" his affection. Then he finally gives up after being unsuccessful and says he'll find another victim instead. It is only at this moment that John finally decides he wants Chase and disapproves of him torturing other men, then decides to stay with Chase forever- except now Chase wants nothing to do with him.
  • The Many Deaths of You: There are 13 ways to die, with them being treated as collectibles of a sort and recorded on your file, ranging from being Squashed Flat, poisoned, or being turned into a shadow.
  • Unrequited Love Switcheroo: For most of the game, John Blanc is trying to escape from Chase Colt, a Serial Killer's spirit who wants to show his affection for John by torturing him. Then in the True End, Chase has had enough of trying to get John to break only to be faced with unmoving stoicism, and so gives up. Only for John to change his mind and say that now he loves Chase and agrees to stay with him for the rest of eternity, when Chase now wants nothing to do with him.
