Mike Shadow: I Paid For It! is an Adobe Flash video game by Tanoku released in 2011. In it, you play as the titular Mike Shadow, who just wanted to buy a drink with a coin, but the machine just swallows his coin and doesn't give him the drink he paid for. Enraged, Mike decides to beat the tar out of the machine, in the most brutal way possible. This sets up the gameplay, in which you control Mike and beat the machine up until his patience for the day runs out, after which you can buy upgrades with money earned from the beatdown, then repeat the process as the fights grow flashier and more intense (even if the machine doesn't ultimately get damaged).

This game provides examples of:

  • Berserk Button: Losing money (even a single coin) is this for Mike, as evidenced by how brutally he decides to beat the machine for it.
  • Chain Pain: Chains, as the name indicates, lets Mike use several chains to deal the machine. Lvl.1 has him use a pair of seemingly hot ones in a flurry of swings.
  • Chainsaw Good: The Chainsaw special lets Mike cut through the machine and then some.
  • Cooldown: Every move has a short recharge time after it's used, ranging from a few seconds to a few minutes.
  • Critical Hit: You have a chance to deal double damage with each hit. It starts at 5% and gets raised by 5% with each upgrade, plus the "I've Got the Power!" bonus can raise it further.
  • Diagonal Cut: Lvl.3 Katana has the screen go black with a diagonal slice being shown, which deals light damage to the machine... And as it turns out, he also cut a building diagonally, which falls into it, dealing a much larger amount of damage.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: What does Mike do after the machine refuses to give him a drink? Why, he beats the hell out of it. He could just cut his losses or stop as he earns enough money to simply buy another drink at a different machine, but nah.
  • Doppelgänger Attack: Combo Lvl.2 has Mike briefly conjure a copy of himself which joins in on the machine beatdown.
  • Excuse Plot: The plot can be summed up as "Mike lost his coin to a machine and is angry about the situation! Now it's clobbering time!"
  • Fire, Ice, Lightning: Almost. The three elemental move types are fire, water, and lightning.
  • Humongous Mecha: The Mecha special has Mike use a massive transforming robot. It fires a bunch of missiles and turns into a humanoid form while those are flying, firing lots of machine gun shots before they connect.
  • I Know Madden Kombat: Ball Lvl.1 is a coordinated volleyball spike and Lvl.3 is a super powerful soccer kick used against the machine.
  • Infinity +1 Sword: The Premium attacks. They require you to pay a massive amount of cash, but their damage output (and patience cost) are unmatched.
  • Laser Blade: The Lightsaber attacks have Mike cut the machine with a lightsaber. Lvl.1 uses a standard blue one. Lvl.2 changes it to a double-bladed red one
  • Limit Break: Your Stress meter fills up as you deal damage. When it's full, very powerful Specials can be used.
  • Made of Indestructium: The vending machine. It doesn't matter what you hit it with or how much you do it, not even the most powerful physical attacks, weaponry or supernatural powers will ultimately leave a dent on it.
  • Making a Splash: Water attacks. Lvl.1 is a tidal wave. Lvl.2 is a huge spinning typhoon of water that turns into a larger tidal wave. Lvl.3 has him surf on what is the largest tidal wave that swamps the machine.
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: The vending machine. Mike may check it with a paranormal activity detector in one of his post-round animations.
  • Money Multiplier: The "Show Me The Money!" bonus increases money chance by 20/30/50%, depending on the level. The move's animation displays Mike talking to a rich guy who decides to give him money, with higher levels involving stronger negotiation.
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: Mike can lift some really heavy objects and deal power blows despite being rather spindly.
  • Overly Long Fighting Animation: Some of the longer animations may overstay their welcome, though they don't typically exceed 20 seconds.
  • Playing with Fire: Fire attacks. Lvl.1 is a huge flamethrower. Lvl.2 has him summon a giant fire-breathing dragon by using several alchemy circles. Lvl.3 is a giant volcano that spits a couple hot rocks and follows it up by a long wave of lava.
  • Rain of Arrows: Ranged Weapons Lvl.2 involves Mike as a centurion ordering a group of Roman soldiers to fire a lot of arrows at the machine. They do so while he blocks the arrows with his shield, and he ends the attacks by throwing one straight at it for good measure.
  • Shock and Awe: Lightning attacks. Lvl.1 is a large thunder summoned from the sky. Lvl.2 connects the machine to a ginormous shockwave with Mike's punch. Lvl.3 summons a thunderstorm that electrifies him and makes him strike the machine like a humongous thunderbolt.
  • Shout-Out: Some attack names are references, like "Fly Me to the Moon".
    • The level-one lightning attack is essentially the Ionic Storm from inFAMOUS viewed from the front.
    • The Mecha special is based on White Glint from Armored Core: For Answer, and its attack animation is basically a remake of the game's intro cinematic.
  • Sinister Scythe: Mike's default special is the Scythe of Death.
  • Slain in Their Sleep: Defied. One of the post-round animations has Mike trying to fall asleep next to the vending machine. An unknown hand behind it tries to stab him, but he wakes up just as he's about to get killed and the hand quickly disappears. The animation then repeats.
  • Telephone Polearm: Street Weapons Lvl.3 has Mike beat the machine with a street light.
  • Temporary Bulk Change: Mike turns muscular for the duration of Push Lvl.2.
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: Physical attacks, balls, weapons, fire, water, lightning, meteors, nuclear strikes, and the kitchen sinknote  are all used against a simple vending machine.
  • Vengeful Vending Machine: You buy upgrades to beat the crap out of an uncooperative vending machine.
  • Versus Character Splash: Before each fight, the game displays "Mike Shadow VS. Vending Machine" on a screen like this.
  • Wolverine Claws: The Wolverine special does what you'd expect. Mike grows long, sharp claws and scratches the machine aggressively.

New record!!That fight was epic!+30$ bonus
