Marvelous: Another Treasure Island is an Action-Adventure Role-Playing Game developed by Nintendo R&D 2 and published by Nintendo and released in 1996 for the Super Famicom. The game very the very first game produced by Eiji Aonuma who would later go on to be the executive producer of the The Legend of Zelda series.

Long ago, the seas were ruled by treasure-seeking pirates. The most famous of these was the legendary Captain Maverick, who supposedly left a great treasure known as "Marvelous", guarded by unsolvable puzzles and bizarre creatures. Countless adventurers have gone looking for the "Marvelous", but none have seen it and returned alive. Many years later, a group of children on a field trip landed on the island, which was rumored to house the "Marvelous".

The player takes control of all three of the boys at once. They can switch to any of the boys at once, each of which has a different ability and can be equipped with different items which can be used to solve puzzles in a cooperative way. Interacting with an object brings up a command menu which gives the player a series of options for how to interact.

Because of how late the Super Famicom was in its lifecycle, an international release of the game was cancelled, but a fully-made Fan Translation was released in 2016.

The game has the following tropes:

  • Big, Thin, Short Trio: Our protagonists, Max, Jack, and Deon, respectively
  • Dangerous 16th Birthday: The opening of the game starts on Winky the Monkey's 16th birthday
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Jack is able to build things and work with machines, making him the one who is able to use the most items.
  • Minigame: The game has a few minigame challenges thrown in including a fishing game and a soccer game.
  • Power Trio: Dion can run fast and get into small spaces by crawling. Max can swim and lift and throw heavy objects, and Jack is the tallest and can use the most items.
  • Punny Name: Jack is tall and thin like a beanstalk. Max (the large one) can be short for "Maximum". Polly can fit inside Max's pocket.
