Lords of Exile is a Retraux video game based on the Castlevania series. It takes place in the Lands of Exilia where the cursed king must take care of samurais and creatures of the night.


Lords Of Exile provides examples of:

  • Advancing Wall of Doom: In the first level, the player has to outrun an advancing spiked wall.
  • Antepiece: Some stage elements are introduced in a safe environment. For an example, swinging platforms in Stage 2 first have a solid ground below them when they're first introduced before having them over Bottomless Pits.
  • Betting Mini-Game: There are slot machines scattered throughout the game. These can be used to win items.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: The third level introduces giant bugs as an enemy.
  • Bottomless Pits: Falling off the screen is deadly.
  • Collision Damage: Colliding with enemies hurts.
  • Crate Expectations: Wooden crates are encountered right from the start of the game. Small crates can be broken to find items.
  • Crosshair Aware: Third level boss fires slime globs, indicated by red targets that warn the player where they land.
  • Defeat Equals Explosion: Some enemies explode upon being defeated.
  • Dem Bones: Level 2 features skeletal fish that jumps out of the water from time to time.
  • Double Jump: Eventually, the player gains the ability to jump mid-air.
  • Everything Fades: When pickups are left on the ground for too long, they start blinking and eventually disappear.
  • Flash of Pain: Enemies flash white upon being hit.
  • Floating Platforms: The game has platforms that float or even move back-and-forth mid-air.
  • Giant Spider: Third level introduces player-sized spiders that move up and down. A particularly large giant spider is a boss of the said level.
  • Hollywood Acid: Acid in this game is depicted bright green.
  • Lava Pit: Eighth level has entire bottom of the screen covered with lava.
  • Lethal Lava Land: The eighth level takes place in fiery castle, complete with lava and fireballs emerging from it.
  • Locomotive Level: Fourth level takes place on a moving train.
  • Mercy Invincibility: The player is invulnerable for a short time after being hit.
  • Money Spider: Even animals can drop gold upon death.
  • Mook Maker: Womb Level has holes that spawn flying enemies.
  • Nothing but Skulls: Some levels have sections where piles of skulls can be seen. For an example, in the area with the first boss.
  • Orbiting Particle Shield: The player unlocks an ability to have three orbs orbit around, dealing damage. The second boss also has this ability albeit with eight orbs.
  • Post-Defeat Explosion Chain: Larger enemies and some bosses die with multiple explosions or cause the environment to do so.
  • Rewarding Vandalism: Break crates to get items.
  • Rise to the Challenge: There is a segment in the second level where the player must outrun the rising water.
  • Roaring Rapids: In the third level, the player has to fight water currents that push the player.
  • Rodents of Unusual Size: Giant rats are a common enemy.
  • Segmented Serpent: One of the enemies is a bone snake consisting of multiple segments. The head must be killed or else the enemy only gets shorter.
  • Ship Level: Majority of the the second level takes place inside a wooden ship.
  • Shockwave Stomp: A few enemies slam into ground to produce protruding shockwaves. Eventually, the player's Ground Pound can also be upgraded to have this ability.
  • Sound of No Damage: When attacks get blocked, they make distinct metallic sound.
  • Stalactite Spite: Chandeliers start falling when the player is under them.
  • Steam Vent Obstacle: The first level has red pipes that periodically leak damaging steam.
  • Super Drowning Skills: The player can drown when touching the water.
  • Sword Beam: Katsu shadow can launch a projectile from its sword when charged.
  • Sword Lines: Using a sword produces clearly visible line arc.
  • Spikes of Doom: Some levels have spikes, sometimes taking in form of teeth.
  • Temporary Platform: Some platforms crumble when stood on.
  • Turns Red: Some of the bosses like final boss have multiple phases, the second one being harder.
  • Underground Level: The third level takes place in watery caves.
  • Video Game Sliding: The player can slide on the ground for faster movement and to navigate low-ceiling areas.
  • Watch for Rolling Objects: The first level has the playing dodging barrels that roll on the ground until they hit a spiked wall. Third level introduces rocks that fall from holes to drop vertically on the ground while rolling.
  • Weaponized Offspring: Spiders in eighth level spawn smaller spiders.
  • Womb Level: One level takes inside a giant organism.
