"Making games in my eyes is kind of an art. Just like making music or movies. Its needs passion and creativity. Those things you cant learn, you have it or you don’t."

jbs, creator and developer

Little War Game is a browser-based HTML5 Real-Time Strategy game created by "jbs" that features strong influences from Warcraft, Starcraft, and Age of Empires. Unlike all of those examples, you don't have to pay, download, subscribe, or install anything... Just start playing the pixelated medieval-themed game at its website here.

Not to be confused with the 3D turn-based strategy game Great Little War Game.

LittleWarGame contains examples of:

  • Competitive Multiplayer: As of version 1.92 a matchmaking ladder was added into the game that separated players according to divisions. Weekly and monthly tournaments also held this place for a time.
  • Construct Additional Pylons: Provided by Houses and Castle. Unusually for the genre, units will build inside their structures regardless of your total Population. However, if there's not enough Supply for them when they finish you'll be treated to a red text message and a bump sound.
  • Indie Game: jbs has been working on LWG mostly by himself since September 2013. Since the original version's only attacking units were Soldiers and Riflemen, it's safe to say the game has grown since then.
  • Medieval European Fantasy: Complete with Soldier swords, Mage Sorcery, and giant Dragons flying around.
  • Metagame: Given its Perpetual Beta status, the game has had an evolving metagame since its creation in September of 2013. Catapults, Mages, Wolves, Dragons, Watchtowers, and even Workers have been overpowered at one point or another.
  • Perpetual Beta: Despite hosting tournaments, getting a Youtube channel, and hitting hundreds of concurrent players during a Reddit spike, the game still hasn't been fully released out of beta. Not that that's a bad thing.
