Intruder is an asymmetrical multiplayer tactical shooter developed by Superboss Games for PC. It was released through Steam Early Access on March 2nd, 2019.
The game revolves around a team of Intruders who must steal a briefcase from a mountainside complex while a team of Guards attempt to stop them. The gameplay focuses on using gadgets to accomplish your goals, such as motion sensors, remote charges and mirror cameras.
Has no relation to the 1989 slasher film of the same name. It is equally unrelated to the BBC series Intruders, the 2006 novel The Intruders, or the 2015 films Intruders and The Intruders.
Intruder contains examples of:
- Air-Vent Passageway: Vents can be found throughout the building, and are useable.
- Boom, Headshot!: Headshots are an instant kill, even with thrown grenades. Hilarity Ensues.
- Capture the Flag: An asymmetrical variant is used as the basis of the Riverside map.
- Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": The Guards and Intruders are referred to only as their job.
- Friend or Foe?: The Guards and Intruders both have similar appearances, making it hard to tell the difference between the two teams. The best ways to find out are to ask or look for the bright purple visor that the Guards wear.
- Grid Inventory: Which handily fits all the items you'll really need.
- Interface Screw: The gas grenades blur players vision, making it difficult to see, as well as reversing both look axis.
- No "Arc" in "Archery": Averted.
- One Bullet Clips: Used, despite the slant towards realism.
- Hollywood Silencer: The silenced pistol is much quieter than the SMG, but in return is less powerful. Headshots, however, are as effective as ever.
- Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: The riot shield is extremely effective when used skillfully, provided that whoever is shooting at you can't toss any explosives your way.
- Pinned Down: Incorporated into the game's gunplay and balance systems. Suppressing an enemy with continuous gunfire will blur their screen on top of decreasing their Energy, which in turn greatly decreases their accuracy and makes them easier to knock over with explosives or shots. This makes pinning down enemies a vital strategy in gunfoghts.
- Player Versus Player: The only mode is player versus player.
- Playing Possum: Pressing K makes you ragdoll, allowing you to fake death. Players can shoot knocked down players at the risk of revealing their location, or they can move over to arrest them at the risk of being ambushed.
- Ragdoll Physics: The game has a 'balance' meter which dictates the ease at which you can be ragdolled by such things as gunfire and explosions. Moving around decreases the meter as you'd expect, as will continued suppression.
- Spiritual Successor: To the Spies Versus Mercs mode from Splinter Cell, specifically the older versions in Chaos Theory and Double Agent.
- Trap Master: The C4 is primarily here to serve this purpose, especially when paired with a motion sensor to detect enemies without requiring a line of sight.
