Hyperballoid is a game series released throughout the 2000s and 2010 by Alawar Entertainment. It's a Breakout clone with a twist - most levels have elements made to look like pictures of things and physics that ensure breaking them is not as simple as just predicting where the ball will bounce. Luckily, there are quite a few bonuses to give the player an edge... or a hindrance.

This game provides examples of:

  • 1-Up: A bonus with "+1" grants an extra life. It's fairly rare.
  • Anti-Frustration Features: Once there aren't many bricks left, the game drops a Warp/Wrap Level bonus that makes you proceed to the next one, helping players avoid the annoyance of getting stuck on a level due to being unable to break a few bricks.
  • Bigger Is Better: If the ball is big, it has potential to deal more damage. If it's small, it won't destroy even the regular bricks in one hit.
  • Breaking Out: It's breaking shapes with a ball that bounces off a paddle.
  • Cap: There's a limit to how many balls can be on screen at once which grants extra 250 points if you reach it. It appears to be 27 to 30.
  • Harder Than Hard: Expert mode, which is one step above hard.
  • Infinite: Level 5 in Exotic Levels is shaped like an infinity symbol, with another infinity symbol inside.
  • Level Ate:
    • Level 7 in Exotic Levels is meant to resemble grapes with its purple balls and stem-like bricks.
    • Level 44 in Exotic Levels looks like a cocktail made of triangles and a glass made of bricks.
  • Level Editor: 2 has a menu where you can place shapes to make your own levels and download ones created by others.
  • One-Hit Polykill: The Rail Ball bonus makes the ball break every element in one hit and not bounce off while doing so, leading to a lot of potential kills along the way.
  • Playlist Soundtrack: There's a MyMusic folder. Putting .mp3 files into it lets you listen to songs in random order.
  • Poison Mushroom: Bonuses with a red outline have effects like shrinking the ball/board, making the bounces unpredictable, or outright removing one life.
  • Power-Up: There are 25 bonuses, with 17 providing positive effects.
  • Power-Up Magnet: The Bonus Magnet attracts positive bonuses to your paddle.
  • Pun-Based Title: With "ball" and "hyperboloid".
  • Shows Damage: Damaged elements get cracked, change color, or otherwise have some sort of indication of their status.
  • Shout-Out: Levels 11 and 37 in Traditional Levels resemble an enemy from Space Invaders.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: Shapes that flash red explode once they're destroyed, damaging anything in their range.
  • Themed Cursor: Golden Pack has a golden cursor that looks like the point of an arrow.
  • Too Awesome to Use: Discouraged as all your power-ups are reset upon completing a level, so you better use that cannon or laser gun before it ends.
  • A Winner Is You: All you get for winning are the words "CAMPAIGN IS COMPLETED".
