Fanfic / Ed, Edd n Eddy: The Game

Go To

''Ed, Edd n Eddy: The Game'' is a Creepypasta based on the TV show Ed, Edd n Eddy. As the story goes, a random 4chan user posts the link to an Ed, Edd n Eddy fan game online, where those that experienced it were "in for one hell of a ride". The Creepypasta was defictionalized by the user patrick4996 into a playable game, which can be viewed here.

Ed, Edd n Eddy: The Game contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Distillation: Due to the recreation being made primarily in Unity, many of the events such as being texted instructions or the phone calls are simply replaced with in-game text. Additionally, the prompts to enter the user's information were removed to likely prevent violations of privacy (and to avoid violating Unity's terms of service).
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Eddy in the show, while selfish and rude, at least has some morals when compared to the fan game, where he appears to show less concern over the deaths of the Cul-de-Sac kids, instead focused on the loss of the quarters.
  • Anonymous Author: In-Universe. While the author of the real-world story has been identfied and credited, the author of the fan game is unknown both due to 4chan's users being generally anonymous as well as the original account being shut down.
  • Don't Touch That, You Idiot!: The beginning of the Creepypasta mentions various 4chan users warning against playing the fan game. Of course, the few that played didn't exactly listen to those warnings.
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: The "effects" the game have seem to be paranormal in nature, with the phone ringing with no one answering as well as claims of users hearing whispering and backwards playing music. However, it's unclear whether this is due to the game causing these effects, the users simply having hallucinations related to the game, or if it's something made up by the users.
  • Press X to Not Die: One section of the game requires the player to rapidly press the spacebar in order to avoid a slowly moving polygon.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: A version of Double D that appears in a hallway level shows small, red eyes while chasing the player.
  • Sensory Abuse: The "making of" CD plays loud screaming after the car has hit the wall, which causes the users' computers to break.
  • Stylistic Suck: The fan game itself is very crudely made, with poorly designed models as well as having an amateurish feel to it. The playable recreation by patrick4996 replicates this shoddy feel, even down to the crudely made models and odd level design.
  • The Fourth Wall Will Not Protect You: The game in the original story would not only directly address the player in certain segments, but would also directly text the player through their phone with certain instructions. The "The making of" CD also causes the entire computer to shut down when the video is played.
  • Wham Line: A few, considering the short nature of the fan game.
    • The game, at first, appears to be a crude, but ultimately light-hearted fan game based on the show. However, the dialogue after the car crash cutscene implies something... darker. "Approaching the two will make the white text on the bottom of the screen to change to say:"
"The white text now says 'End this horrible game now.'"
  • Wham Shot: After the Eddy and Double D cutscene, the player would be taken to a hallway level, where they would be asked to run. After the text reading "run" appears, an Evil Doppelgänger of Double D chases the player down the hallway.
