Familia is an RPG Maker MZ game developed by Maui Game Studio. Act 1 was released in May 2020, but with additional acts in development.

The island of Kalbi and the Draconian Empire were once allies, but without warning, the Draconian Empire destroyed one of Kalbi's airships and occupied their lands. The game takes place from the point-of-view of a family of monks and ninjas, who are at the forefront of the Kalbi resistance. However, the patriarch of the family got separated from the rest during the airship attack, so he must find his way back to Kalbi with the help of a mysterious and questionably sane sage.

Can be downloaded from Steam.

This game contains examples of:

  • Absurdly High Level Cap: Most players will likely beat the game at levels 10 through 20, but the level cap for non-master classes is 50, which is probably only necessary for Mother Superboss and the New Game Plus versions of some bosses. However, once a character reaches level 50, they can attain a Master class that allows them to level up indefinitely, albeit with stat growths only every 100 levels. However, each new level in the Master Class allows the character to manually allocate AP to their stats.
  • Amnesiac Hero: Lono's airship is attacked by the Draconians. He survives, but hit his head and lost his memory. Until he makes it back to the Kalbian Refugee base, he doesn't know his own name, though he remembers some of his martial arts.
  • Brutal Bonus Level:
    • The Mother's Den has powerful cursed monsters and a boss that pushes the limit of what's possible without Reach grinding.
    • In the Reach, the player can adjust the difficulty to increase the stats of the enemies, pushing them far above the stats of story enemies. Justified because this is supposed to be a training simulation.
  • Combat Medic:
    • Keeria and Koko have both offensive ninpo skills and force-based healing skills.
    • Marlene is a Kung-Fu Wizard with Restoration, an MP-based healing skill. Sero, a standard Squishy Wizard, also has Restoration, along with the weaker Cure skill.
  • Evil Former Friend: Captain Noway, a Draconian Empire officer, was once a friend to the higher-ups of Kalbi. In the present, he's a victim of Draconian propaganda, causing him to believe that Kalbi betrayed the Draconian Empire and not the other way around. Near the end of Act 1, he leads an assault on the Kalbi Summit and is defeated by the party. That said, the Shogun values his friendship with Noway enough to spare him and merely place him under house arrest in the castle, hoping that he can convince his old friend of his side of the story.
  • Fragile Speedster:
    • Poki has worse HP growth than his father, but he has the highest speed growth out of all monk characters.
    • Muffins the cat is even faster and more frail than Poki, due to being unable to equip armor.
  • Guest-Star Party Member:
    • Marlene temporarily joins Poki and Koko when the Conjurer attacks them. She can't permanently join because she dies in a Mutual Kill with the Conjurer.
    • Sero the Sage joins Lono when the latter is stranded on a desert island, though he leaves once they make it back to Kalbi.
  • Hello, [Insert Name Here]:
    • Keeria, Koko, Poki, and Muffins can be renamed when they first join the party.
    • Lono can be renamed when he reunites with his family.
    • Sero is named the second time he joins Lono, though his real name is unknown.
  • Kung-Fu Wizard: Unlike most of her other family members, Marlene has a high MP pool and can use ice magic. She's also skilled in martial arts, hence her moniker, the Legendary Blizzard Fist.
  • Lord British Postulate: The developer states that Linky, the cameo battle from Radiant Arc, was never meant to be beaten, despite implementing post-battle dialogue and adding an achievement for winning. Linky is at the stat cap, but the party members' stats don't come anywhere close to that, making it so that all of Linky's attacks are likely to oneshot even the tankiest characters. It's still possible to win with either excessive Reach grinding or a luck-based poison and counter buff strategy, the latter of which prompted the developer to lower Linky's EXP rewards.
  • Mighty Glacier: The Shogun has high attack growth, good defenses, and can hit multiple times, but his armor has a speed penalty. Even with the gear he can obtain from the Reach, his speed will still be lower than average compared to the rest of the party.
  • Mutual Kill: The Conjurer mortally injures Marlene with a Fireball spell, so she uses the last of her strength to kill him with her pugilism and ice magic.
  • Never Mess with Granny: Marlene appears to be a humble and unassuming grandmother at first, but she's also the strongest warrior of Kalbi, having mastery over both martial arts and magic.
  • New Game Plus: Although only Act I is out right now, this act has the option to return to the beginning of the game with all stats and gear. However, several bosses will be replaced by stronger versions.
  • Ninja: Keeria, Koko, Wicks, and Bedge are ninjas who use consumable tools like shurikens, kunai, and scrolls.
  • Point Build System: Once a character unlocks their Master class by getting to level 50 in their base class, they gain 1 AP every time they level up instead of normal stat growth. AP can be spent in the Reach facility to increase any stats of the player's choosing.
  • Power Fist: Lono, Poki, and Red are monks that equip gauntlets and elemental claws.
  • Sacrificial Lion: Marlene, the grandmother of the family, is also their strongest member at the start of the game. She dies in a Mutual Kill with the Conjurer to show how high the stakes are when fighting the Draconian Empire.
  • Squishy Wizard: Sero has a wide variety of elemental spells, but has low HP growth. While he starts at a higher level than Lono, the latter will quickly surpass him in HP in a few levels.
  • Superboss:
    • The Mother is the second strongest optional boss available before New Game Plus, due to her high stats, scripted HP absorption barrage, and multiple forms.
    • If the player angers Linky by repeatedly examining the bookshelf next to him, he'll attack the party. All of his stats are at their caps, making him the strongest enemy in the game.
  • Wolfpack Boss: In the ninja challenges, the party has to face the ninjas Lettie, Celia, and Ryne individually. In the fourth and final ninja challenge, the three of them will form a team.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: It takes most of Act 1 for Lono to reunite with his family and drive the Draconian invaders out of Kalbi. During the epilogue, the fortune teller will warn the player that the family will be split up again during Act 2.
