A puzzle game where you build cities with strategy!
Dorfromantik is a casual hybrid city-builder simulation/puzzle game developed and published by Toukana Interactive and released on April 28, 2022.

The game is a tile-laying game themed around rural and urban landscapes. The player is given a limited array of hexagonal tiles with different features (cities, forests, fields, lakes/rivers, and rail lines) and must place them onto a map made out of hexagonal shapes. The player must place the tiles together in a way that best maximizes the use of the game's world, such as putting tiles together that join two common objects or elements, or give other objects the right environment. Earning achievements gives the player more tiles which can be used to extend the gameplay period, since running out of tiles ends the game.

In 2022, a cooperative board game adaptation was designed by Michael Palm and Lukas Zach and published by Pegasus Spiel. A sequel, subtitled Dad Duel is a more competitive implementation.

Tropes:

  • Achievement System: Certain tiles in the game unlock achievements if put together with other certain tiles or under certain circumstances. Achievements allow the player to earn more tiles, including tiles that offer new elements.
  • Bizarre Puzzle Game: Rotate and line up hexagonal pieces to build the perfect virtual city.
  • Casual Video Game: The game does not include the more in-depth aspects of city building/space management games, instead having a simple focus on actually building a city.
  • Critical Existence Failure: The game ends if the player runs out of usable tiles.
  • Resources Management Gameplay: Your supply of tiles is ultimately restricted by how efficiently you manage to complete goals.
  • Scoring Points: The game keeps track of the score. Higher scores can be achieved by placing tiles so that their edges match.
  • Windmill Scenery: Windmill tiles are very common and demand being placed with at least a number of farm tiles. If enough are placed, your virtual world becomes very well dotted by windmills.
