Deer Avenger is a bestselling series of PC exclusive video games (parodies of the bestselling Deer Hunter (Series)) developed by Simon & Schuster Interactive and Hypnotix.
The protagonist of the game is a bipedal deer named Bambo who hunts humans in a fashion similar to typical deer hunting in order to avenge all deer hunted by humans.
The main games in the series:
- Deer Avenger (October 6, 1998)
- Deer Avenger 2: Deer in the City (August 31, 1999)
- Deer Avenger 3-D (September 29, 2000)
- Deer Avenger 4: The Rednecks Strike Back (August 27, 2001)
The games provide examples of:
- Dead Guy on Display: Bambo mounts the heads of the hunters he's killed on his trophy wall.Bambo: "Ah, yes, nothing quite dresses up the home like the stuffed head of a drunk."
- Deep South: Slightly subverted since the only "Southern" state that Bambo has ever hunted in (so far) is Georgia, and that's not until game #3.
- The Dog Bites Back: The series revolves around a deer hunting humans as retribution for his kind being hunted by them.
- "Facing the Bullets" One-Liner: Almost every hunter has at least one of these in every game, and several have more than one.
- Hayseed Name: Commonplace, since most of the hunters (Earl, Jedd, Bubba, Boog, Boozer, Emma Sue, Moose, Hank, Travis and Daisy) are stereotypical rednecks.
