Clunky Hero is a Metroidvania Action RPG Platform Game by Chaosmonger Studio.
The game casts the player as Rufus, a simple peasant who lives a simple life. That is, until an evil creature kidnaps his beloved wife Brunhilde and turns her into some hideous duck-faced monstrosity. Well, Rufus won't take this sitting down. Donning a bucket with holes in it as a hat, and arming himself with his wife's broom, Rufus starts out on his quest to defeat the evil creature and save his wife.
The game was funded on Kickstarter on June 15th, 2020. It saw its release on January 25th, 2023.
Clunky Hero contains examples of:
- Bee Afraid: Enemies in the game include wasps as big as Rufus.
- Broomstick Quarterstaff: Rufus' starting weapon is his wife's broomstick.
- Floating Platforms: The game is rife with inexplicably floating rocks and landmasses.
- Hyperactive Metabolism: Food and drinks are healing items in the game. How much they recover varies from item to item.
- Inexplicable Treasure Chests: Spread throughout the game. They'll need to be hit multiple times before they open.
- Life Meter: Located in the top-left corner of the screen, it's the red bar.
- Save Point: Lampposts with a lit lantern on them.
- Sidequest: Plenty to spare in the game, much to Rufus' chagrin.
- Side View: How the game is seen by the player.
- Walking Shirtless Scene: Rufus dresses in pants shoes, belt, and bucket helmet, but no shirt.
