"A PURRFECT ADVENTURE"

Carrot Kingdom™ is a platform video game developed by Joseph Nesbella and Mao Mao Media LLC for the Atari 2600 video game console. Carrot Kingdom™ shipped worldwide on May 11, 2021, in a limited physical box & cartridge release.

In Carrot Kingdom™ you take on the role as Jinny, an anthropomorphic catgirl maid who found herself in the magical world of the Carrot Kingdom. Players travel through some of the most colourful side scrolling levels on the Atari 2600. Players will be throwing yarn balls at enemies, and jumping over obstacles, in addition to challenging lava surfing sections. Hearts can be collected from fallen enemies to refill your health, and huge bosses will impede your progress waiting to be defeated.

Carrot Kingdom™ provides examples of the following tropes:

  • All There in the Manual: Most of the information about the characters and story is from the manual.
  • Anthropomorphic Food: The denizens of the Carrot Kingdom, including the Carrot King, Carrot Knights, Fruit Bats, and Bread Cat.
  • Auto-Scrolling Level: The lava surfing section.
  • Big Bad: The Carrot King, who rules the Carrot Kingdom.
  • Checkpoint: After defeating a boss, if you die, you will resume from the stage following the boss.
  • Collision Damage: If Jinny collides with an enemy or obstacle she loses a heart.
  • Convection, Schmonvection: Jinny can surf on lava without any problem.
  • Cat Girl: Jinny, the protagonist is a catgirl.
  • Difficulty Levels: Has both Easy and Hard modes with varying effects to the gameplay and enemies.
  • Exposition Break: After various points in the game, the action will cut to a text entry to fill in what is happening in the story between levels.
  • Fully-Dressed Cartoon Animal: Jinny wears a maid uniform, and Chocolat wears a top and shorts, as well as a leotard.
  • Flash of Pain: When bosses are damaged, they flash red, to indicate the damage.
  • Foreshadowing: In the haunted forest there is a huge statue of the Carrot King, several levels before the final encounter.
  • Hearts Are Health: Jinny's health indicator is 3 heart icons. Collecting a heart refills a lost heart.
  • King Mook: The Carrot King. The first basic enemies are Carrot Knights, and the Carrot King is a giant Carrot.
  • Mercy Invincibility: When Jinny is struck by an enemy or projectile, she flashes white and is invincible for a short time.
  • Minimalist Cast: Jinny and Chocolat are the only characters fleshed out as more than just something to defeat.
  • One-Hit-Point Wonder: Most enemies die in one hit.
  • Parachute Petticoat: If you hold down the fire button after jumping, Jinny will slowly descend and glide like Princess Toadstool in Super Mario Bros. 2.
  • Playing with Fire: The Bread Cat shoots fireballs at the player during its boss battle.
  • Rascally Rabbit: When you think you have defeated Chocolat, she tricks you, by using her magic destroying the bridge you were fighting on, and dropping you into the lava river.
  • Ratchet Scrolling: The game only scrolls to the right.
  • Righteous Rabbit: Averted by Chocolat, who is an antagonist.
  • Sudden Gameplay Change: The lava surfing section, the game changes from a sidescrolling platformer to an auto scrolling dodging section.
  • Take Your Time: There is no time limit. As long as there are no enemies on screen, you can idle as long as you like.
  • The Goomba: The Carrot Knights. First enemy you see, not much of a threat.
  • Underground Level: The cave area after the initial section, and the underground lava river, you drop down to after Chocolat's battle.
  • Video Game Setpiece: Chocolat destroys the bridge she and Jinny fight on.
