Atmosfear is a Platform Game by Beam Software which was intended to release on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It's based on the VHS board game of the same name. You control a kid who has to go through six levels based on the Harbingers.
While the game has not been released for unknown reasons, a prototype was discovered in 2019 that can be found here.
This game provides examples of:
- A Winner Is You: If you win, the only scene you see is the Gatekeeper being burned and sucked into a black hole before the credits roll.
- Blow You Away: The Gatekeeper may summon a head that blows wind out of its mouth to push the hero around.
- Bouncer: Samedi's Club has large skeletons wearing black clothes who will throw the kid out if he doesn't pay them to pass.
- Build Like an Egyptian: Khufu's Tomb takes place in the mummy's pyramid.
- Defeat Equals Explosion: Practically every enemy explodes when killed, even though most of them are organic or supernatural creatures.
- Game-Breaking Bug: In addition to Bathory's Castle being unfinished, there's a point late into Khufu's Tomb that causes the game's debug crash handler to pop-up without fail, forcing you to reset your console/emulator.
- Game-Over Man: The Gatekeeper shows up right before the Game Over screen.
- Hub Level: A hubworld is used to access six other levels, with Gatekeeper's head above.
- Idle Animation: The protagonist looks around, grabs something from his pocket, lifts his hat, or crosses his arms and taps his foot.
- Interface Screw: Gatekeeper telling the player to "Go back" results in the left and right inputs on your controller being temporarily swapped (and being sent back to the previous room, if possible).
- Jump Scare: The Gatekeeper's appearance is completely random and unannounced, while he takes up the whole screen- just like in the board game.
- Kid Hero: The player character is an unnamed young boy.
- Life Meter: The kid has a red bar that indicates how much health he has left.
- Sore Loser: Successfully completing one of the Gatekeeper's bonus level challenges causes him to accuse the player of cheating (although at least he's fair and doesn't punish you for it).
- Timed Mission: You only have 60 minutes (actually fewer as time goes faster than shown) to complete a stage, otherwise you get kicked out. Again, this is like the board game.
- Toy Time: Hellin's Toyworld is a mix of this and Amusement Park of Doom, but it does have several toy soldiers walking around.
- Video-Game Lives: You can select between 1 to 99 lives in the options menu.
