An Egyptian Tale is a Beat 'em Up Flash game produced by Miniclip.com.

The Pharaoh has been murdered by his evil brother, a power-hungry usurper who leads an evil cult worshipping Anubis, the God of Death. Taking over Egypt, the cult of Anubis rules with an iron fist, and it's up to the Princess to avenge her father by defeating her Evil Uncle and confronting Anubis in the underworld to put an end to his cult.

Players, in control of the Princess, gets to kick all kinds of ass across four levels throughout Thebes, including the Pharaoh's palace, Abu Simbel, the pyramids and last of all, Anubis' domain in the underworld.

An Egyptian Tale contains examples of:

  • Abnormal Ammo: The serpent bow can fire asps at its targets, inflicting instant poison on anyone it hits.
  • Amazon Brigade: The priestess legions in the second stage, culminating in the High Priestess of Anubis as the level's boss, flanked by scores and scores of her handmaidens.
  • BFS: The first boss, a burly cultist who wields a massive blade larger than the Princess herself! Thankfully he's a Warmup Boss who's quite slow on his feet.
  • Big Bad: Anubis, whose worshippers killed the Pharaoh and took over Egypt, and the Princess must take down his cult before facing him in hell.
  • Classical Chimera: Gigantic, two-headed chimaeras with snakes for tails shows up as a Giant Mook variety enemy, both its heads capable of breathing fire or poisoned smoke on the Princess. However, they can be tamed if the Princess hits them enough times, at which point the hellhounds will be subdued and be ridden as steeds.
  • Cool Crown: The Princess' bejeweled tiara remains on her, no matter how much jumping, running, or kicking ass she does.
  • Cool Sword: One of the obtainable weapons in this game is the Egyptian Khopesh, which is used by a few human enemies but can also be collected by the Princess to slice up mooks.
  • Damage Sponge: Anubis has more health than all the previous three bosses combined. And some more! The final battle is as excruciatingly long as expected, although a good way is to find a bow weapon, defeat Anubis' followers, and spam attacks on Anubis before he can recover.
  • Dance Battler: The priestess mooks will execute attacks by dancing while swinging their blade-tipped sash all over the place.
  • Dark Action Girl: The Priestess enemies, recurring female mooks trying to apprehend the princess. Led by their High Priestess, the second boss.
  • Dem Bones: Anubis has legions of skeleton soldiers in the hell levels as his minions.
  • Energy Bow: Every single bow weapons power-up the Princess can obtain falls under this. The Fire bow shoots firebolts, the Ice bow fires balls of ice, the Medusa bow release poisonous asps that disappears after hitting a target leaving the victim poisoned...
  • Everybody Hates Hades: Anubis, the Egyptian God of the Dead, is portrayed here as an evil villain trying to enslave the entirety of Egypt.
  • Eye of Horus Means Egypt: A common feature seen on hieroglyphs carved on palace walls and pillars.
  • Flunky Boss: All of them. Anubis himself can notably "create" legions of undead and demons on the spot.
  • Healing Potion: Health potions, depicted as a red liquid in a transparent bottle, can boost the Princess' health by more than half.
  • Kill It with Ice: The Ice sword can freeze enemies solid, allowing the Princess to repeatedly rough up frozen enemies, who upon defeat shatters into ice cubes. Unfortunately, so can Anubis.
  • Magic Carpet: Which serves as platforms in levels where jumping is required.
  • Mummy: A game set in ancient Egypt without mummies? Of course not! Mummies can be encountered in the pyramid stages as well as servants of Anubis in the final stage.
  • Playing with Fire: The fire-bow, fire dagger, and the fire-breathing chimaera... also, Anubis loves spamming his black fireballs in the final battle.
  • Poisoned Weapons: Occasionally the Princess will battle enemies armed with venomous weapons, which can inflict a "poisoned" status on her and slowly drain her health until she gets an antidote or defeat enough enemies to offset the effects. Notably the High Priestess' cobra whip and the chimaera's poisonous breath. But then again, the Princess herself can obtain a poisoned spear that does the same on mooks.
  • Power Floats:
    • Anubis' cultists can float around the area, and they're among the most powerful human-based enemies with their deadly spells and Serpent Staff.
    • Hooded demons - Elite Mook enemies - serving Anubis moves by floating all over the place while trying to attack the Princess with their staff.
    • Anubis himself doesn't walk in the later stages of his boss battle. Instead, he floats all over the place while summoning tendrils of dark energy on the Princess.
  • Rewarding Vandalism: Antique vases, Egyptian statues, and assorted potteries are everywhere in the palace, and the Princess can either smash them to pieces, or hurl them at enemies, revealing weapons and power-ups in their contents.
  • Serpent Staff: Befitting the Egyptian setting, the cultists enemies carry a staff which can cause a Shockwave Stomp when tapped on the ground.
  • Snake Whip: The High Priestess boss uses a snake-headed whip on the Princess, which can inflict poisonous bites when scoring a hit.
  • Shield-Bearing Mook: Burly palace guards armed with shields are another enemy in the first three stages. They're higher in defense and their shield makes them tougher to go down, but spamming kicks and stabs still works.
  • Shock and Awe: The electric spear weapon can electrocute enemies.
  • Sleepy Enemy: During earlier stages when the game's going easy on the player, the Princess will often enter a new area and find a bunch of sleeping guards, some of them dozing off while standing, only waking up when attacked. She can in fact beat up one or two awakened enemy at a time, as long as she didn't accidentally punch a sleeping mook.
  • Spin Attack: One of the Princess' special attacks, where she spins around in circles taking down enemies surrounding her.
  • Summon Magic: The Hooded Demons can summon skeleton mooks by tapping the ground, creating magic circles where skeletons will emerge from. Anubis does the same in the final battle.
  • Taken for Granite: The Medusa spear's special effects. Any enemies killed with this weapon will petrify and break into pieces.
  • Warrior Princess: The heroine is an Egyptian Princess trying to avenge her father, the Pharaoh, after he was killed by an evil cult. And she spends the entire game battling enemy cultists, undead monsters, various demons and Anubis himself.
  • Would Hit a Girl: All the cultists and enemy soldiers have no qualms ganging up on the Princess. Or attempt to skewer or slice her up with all sorts of weapons.
  • You Killed My Father: In the backstory, at least. The Pharaoh was killed by an evil cult intending to revive their leader, Anubis, and the Princess is going to take down the entire cult before facing Anubis in hell to avenge her father.
