Unwanted Harem / Fan Works

Go To

  • Archetypal: Lincoln makes it clear that the last thing he wants right now is a harem, no matter what his Archetype (which is literally called "Harem King") says otherwise. Unfortunately, the universe seems to have a different idea...
  • A Crown of Stars: Kensuke spent several weeks complaining about being single and envying his two best friends -Shinji and Touji- because they had hooked up with someone else. Then two girls came along and started to chase after him, and he is completely terrified of them.
  • Advice and Trust: Shinji's all female classmates (Chiriko, Megumi...) are chasing after him. However he only wants Asuka. Unfortunately he and Asuka can not tell they are together (since Nerv could try to separate them), so that Shinji resorts to run away from those girls as Asuka and Rei team up to scare his would-be suitors and drive them away.
    • Ironically, Rei is the only member of Shinji's unwanted harem that Shinji and Asuka would be willing to accept, but she will not try to seduce him precisely because she loves both and she refused to disrupt their bond.
  • A New ROAD of Misfortune: It is implied by the author that Touma may be hiding his true colors from the people he knows. He gets into trouble several times do to one of the girls interested in him. Maybe the fact that he is a lot more nervous than in canon is due to the unwanted attention he attracts from the opposite sex. So far he seems to be dense, so only time will tell if this part of his personality is true.
  • Justified with Jaune in Aunt Salem. While he gets a lot of attention from the female sex, he is sincerely devoted to his relationship with Weiss. As Ren notes, at the end of the day, Jaune loves Weiss and has zero interest in any sort of harem, polygamous marriage, polyamory, or the like, despite what almost everyone else seems to think.
  • John, protagonist of the Russian Worm fanfic Be a hero, due to the fact that his abilities are focused on the almost zombie-like subordination of women with superpower. This also turns them into yanderes who want to protect the protagonist from the world at almost any cost, and they are fighting hard for a place in his harem. The situation is aggravated by the fact that submission cannot be removed, because of this the hero suffers from his harem in moral terms.
  • Bequeathed from Pale Estates: Once he's of age and starts taking on more responsibilities, every single marriageable woman in the North starts throwing themselves at poor Robb Stark. Robb hates it because A) he can only marry one of them, B) many of them don't care about him so much as being the next Lady of Winterfell, and C) many are so aggressive in their pursuit of him that they're willing to violate his privacy and/or borderline terrorize him. Understandably, Robb quickly falls for Aislinn Forrester because, despite liking him, she actively chose not to pursue him.
  • In The Changeling of the Guard, rogue changeling Idol Hooves manages to attract the romantic attentions of his landlady Topaz, the thestral Mothchaser, and even Maud Pie (although she claims that she's only interested in him as a pen pal).
  • This is how Charles zi Britannia views his Royal Harem in Code Geass: The Prepared Rebellion. When VV tells him about how he has 108 nubile and willing women to bed, Charles retorts that most of them are gold digging socialite harpies who have the collective intelligence of a concussed cow. There’s also the fact that since he’s the emperor, one of the things he’s not allowed to do, unlike the Britannian nobility, is that he cannot have a Top Wife, which is what he would have made Marianne as such so that he could keep the rest of them in line.
  • Part of the premise of The Fledgling Year is that Archenland’s crown prince must travel the country to find girls suitable as potential brides, eventually bringing them back to Anvard to be reviewed by the royal advisory council. Prince Cor is not exactly thrilled with this prospect, and often it falls to his best friend/actual future Love Interest Aravis to coax him into bringing promising girls they meet along with them. Word of God has promised that Cor/Aravis are the eventual Official Couple, and only briefly do any of the harem play a role as a Romantic False Lead, but they do serve an important function of the plot—thus far, one has turned out to be an assassin that helped reveal The Conspiracy, and another is making the fangirls Squee as she’s formed one half of a Beta Couple.
  • Exactly fits with Avarian from God of Death (Warhammer-Warcraft crossover), a Space Marine (with a Space Marine character) who picked up a nightelf, a bloodelf, a highelf, two human females and even a forsaken (undead) elf, almost all bearing romantic feelings towards him, without Avarian noticing ANYTHING (being a Space Marine, he just picked them up because he thought they would be useful on his quest, he himself is totally unaware of the emotion called 'love' and, much unlike his companions think, does not bear the 'male weak-minded crave-for-female-flesh'-lust) This is going to be fun.
  • Parodied in Harry Potter and the Something Something. Due to Harry having four different marriage contractsnote , he ends up with four wives; Alicia Spinnett of Gryffindor, Marietta Edgecomb of Ravenclaw, Su Li of Hufflepuff, and Blaise Zabini of Slytherin, who Dumbledore keeps insisting is a girl despite his protests and all evidence to the contrary. About the only one who isn't completely against it is Alicia, who's on the fence due to Harry being hot. And maybe Su Li. They all completely object to it when they find out Dumbledore had tampered with the butterbeers they'd been drinking to make them pregnant with Harry's children. Including Zabini, who drank three and gets to have triplets.
  • HERZ: Shinji is a chick magnet but he does not really want any woman other than Asuka. In chapter 3 Kurumi tries to get close to him, and when Shinji shies away, she asks:
Kurumi:"Oh, what gives? Don't you like women hurling themselves at you?"
  • The Hope Of The Senju Clan. Tsunade's son, Naruto has the misfortune of having a fan club in Konoha who want to continue the Senju clan and other girls who are have seen him fight and think he's a badass who always have him in a Lover Tug of War much to his dismay. Naruto is oblivious to the harem of girls he might actually consider dating (Shion, Rurichiyo, Hinata).
  • Ignorance is Bliss, a Blue Exorcist fanfic, focuses on an completely unknown Unwanted Harem. Unknown because Yukio and the other Exorcists utterly refuse to let Rin find out. Considering all of the Harem is made up of crazy, ugly demon fangirls, it's probably a good thing.
  • In Flight: AND HOW! Lets break it down. In Flight is a crossover between Sekerei and Fate/Stay Night. You see where this is going? Shirou has Rin and Saber who he has been going steady with for 2 years now back in London. Akitsu joins and quickly develops radical levels of devotion to him. Then Musubi, Then Matsu, then Tsukiumi. On top of this if the author continues as he has been there will be Kazehana still to come. On top of THIS it is possible that Yukari is also interested. Added up to the fact that none of them have any idea as to his status as a Mage or the nature of Saber and Rin, regarding them as a old pair of exes that he broke up with. In short Shirou has got himself into an inescapable position. At this point in the fic there is no way out without breaking somebody's heart.
  • John temporarily acquires one of these (and the harem includes men) in The Keys Stand Alone: The Soft World, when he takes his cloak off at the Border Crossroads Inn. Once upon a time he would have wanted them (well, the women), but not after his transformation, since he is now no longer attracted to human women.
  • In King Explosion Murder the Shield Hero not long after Katsuki Bakugou first arrived in Siltvelt’s capital, its Prime Minister Trinock has him isolated in a room to learn more about the nation he's in. When Bakugou realizes what kind of room Trinock locked him into that contained a huge supply of aphrodisiac potions, a mass of Demi-human noble girls swarms at him en masse with the intent to have sex with him with or without his consent. Bakugou does all he could to avoid them, including blasting himself up to the ceiling while trapped in the room with magic barriers on all sides until he's able to break out and escape from his unwanted suitors

  • Deconstructed in The Lost King. King Garon is surrounded by many, many women who lust over him and desire to be with him...to the extent they have begun blackmailing, sabotaging, bullying and outright murdering each other to remove the competition. He is understandably horrified by and tired of this, but no matter what he does can't get rid of them for political reasons. Gradually the infighting extends to start claiming people he genuinely loves, such as his wife and children, and he's helpless to do anything but watch.
  • The Night Unfurls: As the original version of the story progresses, Kyril finds himself with at least 4 women of high status who either have a crush on him, or are actively seeking for his affections. Soren has joked that, had Kyril knew that he would "end up with a string of women in front of his door", he would definitely get an aneurysm. Justified, as he is a brutal hunter from Yharnam, as well as a Humanoid Abomination.
  • Jaune Arc becomes this in a lot of RWBY fanfics. Prominent ones include Massages, where through his skill with massages, he gets the affections of Yang, Blake, Pyrrha, Weiss, Ruby, Velvet, and Glynda. He finds this very uncomfortable, especially since the boys get jealous and try to beat him up. Another is Our Beloved Musician, where this time it's music skills. And everyone of Team RWBY, Pyrrha, Velvet and an OC Team all fall for him.
    • In The Reactsverse fanfic Weiss Reacts set in RWBY, Jaune's harem consists of Pyrrha, Minako, Weiss and her sister Winter. He also has Ship Tease with Miltiades, Yang, Blake, Weiss' other sister, Original Character Elsa, and, Ren.
    • White Sheep (RWBY):
      • Jaune is the object of affection for Ruby, Pyrrha, Yang, and Velvet. He doesn't even notice. Cinder is a Tsundere Clingy Jealous Girl but it's probably platonic. Blake has some attraction to his Grimm form (or more specifically, the tentacles), but it doesn't go anywhere. Emerald also briefly claims to be in his "harem" when she realizes it's the only thing keeping his sister Sapphire from killing her. Weiss is one of the only girls who doesn't have any romantic interest in him at all, so of course she's the one he ends up in a Fake Relationship with.
      • Ren as well. Nora of course constantly tries to get him to notice her feelings, but there's also Jaune's sister Lavender, some repeated Not What It Looks Like moments with Blake, and even the High Leader of the White Fang Sienna Khan. Like Jaune, he never notices.
      • Blake ends up with Sun and Ilia following her around for the latter half of the story. She does notice, but puts up with it because they're helpful.
  • Subverted in the Transformers fanfic The Ultimate Mate Hunt. While Starscream is initially unhappy at being the target of affection from Megatron, Optimus, Soundwave and Skyfire, his mindset changes to Marry Them All when he realizes that the CNA of the four of them and himself would create an extremely powerful sparkling.
  • The Unexpected Love Life of Dusk Shine tries to impart the harem manga genre on My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic by retelling the episodes with Dusk Shine (Twilight Sparkle's opposite-gender counterpart as established by fanon) as the main character while leaving the other characters gender-intact and mostly unchanged. So far Pinkie Pie wants to become OTP to get extra screentime (and suffering a breakdown after being friendzoned by mistake, resulting in Pinkamena taking over), Rarity wants him to be her prince, Applejack is convinced he's flirting with her, Fluttershy is strongly repressing her burning desire for him, and Rainbow Dash doesn't even seem capable of considering that he might not want to be her boytoy. Add to the mixture having Trixie as a live-in student trying to seduce him with a maid outfit and Luna referring to him as "the royal boyfriend", and he has the plate full. (Even Nightmare Moon had romantic designs for him.) Zecora even suggested that he try the Tenchi Solution, but he realized that would be even worse. And naturally Celestia has no intention of helping him out when making things worse is funnier.
  • The protagonist obtaining an extremely over the top one of these is the entire premise behind the Yo-kai Watch fanfic: The Unwanted Harem Of Nathan Adams, Hilarity Ensues.
  • The premise of the My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic fanfic When You Wish Upon A Sue is that Spike the dragon felt unappreciated by his friends, and so he wishes that they will all like him. When he wakes up the next day Spike is transformed into an adult dragon that is adored by everyone who sees him; the magic behind the wish made Spike into such a beautiful dragon that everyone he meets falls hopelessly in love with his beauty and can do nothing but gush over him. His best friends even get into a confrontation at one point over which one of them deserves to be Spike's girlfriend. Naturally you get the impression that while Spike wanted to be appreciated he didn't want women (and even a few men) throwing themselves at him.
  • Happens to the OC in Zulu Squad no Tsukaima, a Spec Ops: The Line/The Familiar of Zero crossover when he gets turned into a Bishōnen teenager. Gets cranked up to eleven when said harem drinks the love potion. Hilarity ensues.
