- Cast the Expert: Several of the cops in the opening sequence were actual, off-duty NYPD officers.
- Completely Different Title: Way too many to list, but common ones include: Zombie (used in the US), Zombie Flesh Eaters (used in the UK, Australia and some parts of mainland Europe) and Woodoo (used in Germany and some other parts of mainland Europe, usually with a Foreign Subtitle).
- In Japan it's Sanguelia, in France it's L'Enfer des zombies ("Zombie Hell"), in Spain it's Nueva York bajo el terror de los zombies ("New York Under the Terror of the Zombies") and in Argentina it's Reincarnation of Zombies.
- Denmark: The Green Island of Horrors.
- Greece: Zombie Raid.
- Mexico: The Walking Dead.
- Serbia: The Island of the Living Dead.
- Russia: Flesh Eaters.
- Turkey: 99% Death.
- Deleted Scene: There exist stills from a sequence showing the boat zombie emerging onto land from New York Harbor. It's not clear whether the scene was actually ever finished, or if it was cut for other reasons.
- Fake American: It's an Italian exploitation movie, so this is par for the course. The only actual American in the main cast is Tisa Farrow.
- Follow the Leader: Started the wave of zombie movies while cashing in on George A. Romero's films. Production started before Dawn of the Dead (1978) was released, though.
- The Foreign Subtitle:
- Argentina: Zombie: Night of Panic.
- Brazil: Zombi 2: The Return of the Dead.
- Portugal: Zombi 2: The Invasion of the Living Dead.
- USA: Zombie 2: The Dead Are Among Us.
- Keep Circulating the Tapes: As part of a deal with Fulci's estate, Blackest Heart Media produced a comic book adaptation of Zombie that would have included the actual invasion of New York by the zombies. But they went out of business and only rare handful of copies of the graphic novel was released and selling for $300-400 a piece.
- The CD that would have come with the graphic novel was put out onto the various filesharing websites though
- Money, Dear Boy: Richard Johnson only took the role because he needed a quick payday and relished the idea of spending two weeks in Santo Domingo.
- Screwed by the Lawyers: Aggressive action by the European rightsholders allegedly severely affected the film's Blu-ray sales in the United States, resulting in The Jerry Gross Organization and Blue Underground, the film's U.S. distributors, filing a lawsuit that also charges the Europeans with preventing its VOD release as well as potential 4K restoration and 3D conversion.
- Sequel First: The "original" Zombi is actually Dawn of the Dead (1978); Zombi was its Italian title. It wouldn't have made sense in some countries, so it gets the moniker Zombie for the US. However, the sequels end up with the same numbers, leaving some Americans wondering where Zombie 2 is.
- What Could Have Been:
- The producers originally wanted Enzo G. Castellari to direct, but he rejected the offer because he didn't like horror movies, and recommended Lucio Fulci instead.
- The zombie in the zombie-shark fight was supposed to be Mexican exploitation director Rene Cardona Jr., but he fell ill right before filming and was replaced by the shark's trainer.
- Filming began under the title Gli ultimi zombi ("The Last Zombies").
