2014 Film:
- Approval of God: Pierre Bergé (Yves Saint Laurent's business partner and lover) approved of everything in the film, and even cried out of feeling it was lifelike when he visited the set.
- Dueling Works: This authorized film came out a short time before the unauthorized (and more lurid) Saint Laurent, with both competing for major film awards. The rivalry didn't extend to the actors however, as Pierre Niney paid homage to Gaspard Ulliel after the latter died in a skiing accident in January 2022.
- Playing Against Type: Guillaume Gallienne was most famous as a comic actor before this film.
- Queer Character, Queer Actor: Guillaume Gallienne is bisexual and played the gay Pierre Bergé.
