Trivia / Wings of Fire

  • Author Phobia: The scene in "The Dragonet Prophecy'' with Clay having to make it through an underground river of indeterminate length while not knowing if he'll end up drowning even with his ability to hold his breath for an hour is inspired by Tui's own fear of swimming in enclosed spaces like this.
  • Completely Different Title: The French title for the series is Les Royaumes de Feu (The Kingdoms of Fire). Some of the book's titles are changed too:
    • The Hidden Kingdom is Au coeur de la jungle (At The Heart of the Jungle)
    • The Dark Secret is L'ile au secret (The Secret Island)
    • Moon Rising is La Montagne de Jade (Jade Mountain)
    • Winter Turning is La piege de glace (The Ice Trap)
    • Escaping Peril is La mission de Peril (Peril's Mission)
    • Darkness of Dragons is La tempete de sable (The Sandstorm)
    • The Hive Queen is Les Rebelles de Pantala (The Rebels of Pantala)
  • Content Leak: An audiobook of The Dangerous Gift was released a couple months before the book's official release and began circulating amongst the fandom. It became so widespread that the wiki had to issue a warning not to post anything about The Dangerous Gift on any of the character pages until it was released.
  • Fandom Life Cycle: Stage 2. The fandom is fairly large by literature standards. It also has a fair amount of fan-material and discussion.
  • Promoted Fanboy: Peregrinecella is a well-known fanartist in the fandom known for how well she can imitate Joy Ang's artstyle. She eventually illustrates images for the series's official coloring book.
  • Release Date Change:
    • Dragonslayer changed its release date three times. It was originally going to be released on December 26, 2019, then changed to February 4, 2020, and finally to March 3, its actual release date.
    • The Dangerous Gift was supposed to come out on mid-2020 as it's script was finalised on that year. However, it got delayed to late 2021.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • In an early draft of the first book, Peril and her brother were a part of The Prophecy. Peril's brother would have been named "Ember". It was decided to make Peril a secondary character and to initially kill her brother because eight Dragonets of Prophecy were too much.
    • An animated adaptation, covering ten 40 minute episodes, was in development for Netflix in 2021. It was led by Ava DuVernay with animation production handled by Warner Bros. Animation. However, the project was suddenly cancelled in May 2022, following a pattern of canned animated projects connected to Netflix Animation. Though Creative Differences was cited as a reason by Netflix, news outlets like Variety factored the company's sudden financial stock drop, layoffs, and shifting creative directions as stronger reasons. However, Tui shopped it around to other studios before it was acquired by Amazon MGM Studios.
  • Word of Gay: Umber was revealed to be gay, to the delight of many fans. In fact, Umber was revealed to be gay before Word of God said it. As noted when Moon is reading their minds in Moon Rising, Umber looks at Qibli and thinks he's handsome.
  • Word of God: Queen Sequoia implies that dragons with venom-spitting abilities defeated the Othermind originally. Tui later confirmed that RainWings traveled with the BeetleWings and LeafWings to Pantala.
