Trivia / Welcome Home (Clown Illustrations)

Go To

  • Acting for Two:
    • In early concepts, Clown Illustrations voiced Wally, Julie, and Poppy.
    • In the final project, L. "Frank" Frankenstein voices Wally and Frank, while SyntheticCharmVA voices both Barnaby and Howdy.
  • Approval of God: Clown frequently showcases Welcome Home fanart on Twitter and Tumblr. The Approval of God the fanart receives is even somewhat present in-universe and Played for Horror, as some audio files from Wally claim that he gains new eyes to look at the viewer with every single time someone draws him.
  • Colbert Bump: Night Mind's video and discovery stream on Welcome Home brought far more attention to the site. For reference, when the video was published on March 21st, 2023, the site had around 10,000 views. Ten days later, on April 1st, it had over 101,000 views. So much so that the site was taken offline temporarily as a result.
  • Cross-Dressing Voices: The nonbinary Joshua Waters voices the male Eddie Dear.
  • Descended Creator: Clown Illustrations voices Wally Darling in the hidden singingmp4 audio file.
  • Development Gag: One of the things showcased during the Playfellow Exhibition was a newspaper clipping of promotional art for Welcome Home, with Eddie and Frank having earlier designs. The art in the clipping was actual art Clown posted in 2020, before the story found its footing.
  • Development Hell: Production on Welcome Home started in 2018. It took five years worth of concepts for the project to reach the iteration many people are familiar with.
  • Diagnosis of God: Clown has confirmed on his Tumblr that Wally is autistic, and several of the other characters exhibit certain autistic traits (e.g., Frank and Julie stim).
  • Fanwork Ban: Before taking a hiatus for health reasons, Clown Illustrations requested that no one use any art that was made prior to 2021 in fan edits, so as not to confuse anyone new to the story.
  • The Other Darrin: At first, Wally, Julie, and Poppy were voiced by Clown Illustrations, with Frank and Barnaby being voiced by Rockabillybun, who would go on to assist with the production of actual project. All five roles have since been recast with different actors.
  • Rule 34 – Creator Reactions: Clown is fully aware that people may make porn of his creations, and he has politely asked for NSFW artists to not publicly post any because he is unsure if he would be fine with it with the website's story still in its prologue stage. Clown would later announce that posting NSFW of his characters is fine, but asked for it to be tagged under "PlayfellowXXX" rather than the regular Welcome Home tag.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Early concept art showed a bird named Sunny/Sonny that was removed circa 2020 for reasons unknown. This same art revealed that while the work itself was still called Welcome Home, the title of the in-universe TV show was Welcome to the Neighborhood.
    • Other pieces of art depict an early design for Howdy where he was a human muppet rather than a caterpillar, along with two scrapped characters, a "music man" and a cow.
    • An older vision for Welcome Home was the story being depicted primarily through a read-a-long storybook format, compared to the website and it's more multi media approach that the concept would eventually evolve into.
    • In one Tumblr post where Clown went over their voiceclaims for each character, Poppy was described as having a Texan voice much like Eddie. In the July 2023 update, she instead has a British accent.
  • Word of Gay: In a few different posts, Clown has stated on a Twitter post they made for Pride Month 2022 that Eddie is gay, Julie is genderfluid, Poppy is a lesbian transgender woman, and Frank is nonbinary and gay. In a post on their Tumblr, Clown also stated that Julie is bisexual.
  • Word of God: According to Clown on Tumblr, the reason why they chose October 11 as the date of the premiere was because it was National Coming Out Day.
