  • Ascended Fanon: Ava and Beatrice partying and getting drunk in the first episode of the second season was a very popular scenario in fanfics in the two years before Season 2's release.
  • Awesome, Dear Boy: As seen in interviews, Kristina Tonteri-Young is extremely passionate about her character Sister Beatrice and discussing her journey over the course of the show. She even rewrote the character's coming out scene with Simon Barry in order to ensure it didn't read as stilted.
  • The Cast Showoff: Sister Beatrice has been shown to be proficient so far in English, French and Latin her actress Kristina Tonteri-Young is able to speak Finnish, English, French, and Russian.note
  • Colbert Bump: The song "Hymn For Her" by Ames was released early in 2022 and got a major bump after becoming the song used during Ava and Beatrice's kiss.
  • Dawson Casting:
    • Ava is 19 at the beginning of the show while her actress Alba Baptista is 25 as of 2022, though it's implied she ages up to her twenties in Season 2.
    • Sister Camila's age is unknown, but her youthful appearance and her status as a rookie imply a very young age while her actress Olivia Delcan is 30 as of 2022.
  • Fake Nationality: There are plenty of examples in the show:
    • Ava is American and is played by Portuguese-Brazilian actress Alba Baptista.
    • Sister Beatrice is English and is played by Finnish-born American actress Kristina Tonteri-Young.
    • Cardinal Duretti is Italian and is played by Portuguese actor Joaquim de Almeida.
    • Sister Camila is (half-)ScottishNote  and is played by Spanish actress Olivia Delcan.
    • Jillian Salvius is English and is played by Dutch actress Thekla Reuten.
    • Miguel is English and is played by Irish actor Jack Mullarkey.
  • Invisible Advertising: Netflix did little to promote the show leading up to the release of Season 2, apart from a trailer and a recap of the first season. Kristina Tonteri-Young (who plays Sister Beatrice) reached out for interviews herself due to the lack of promotion.
  • Playing with Character Type: Joaquim De Almeida is known for playing villainous characters, such as in The Hitman's Bodyguard and Fast Five. Ultimately, while he's teased as a potential Big Bad, he's nothing compared to the threat of Adriel, who's unburied and rises in the Season 1 finale as the true villain.
  • No Stunt Double: Behind the scenes clips show Alba Baptista doing her own stunts for the second season, except for moments when doubles would be required (for example, during the Ava vs Lilith fight).
  • Schedule Slip: The first season was released in July, 2020. Season 2 was released almost two and a half years later in November, 2022.
  • Sending Stuff to Save the Show: The show was canceled after two seasons, and a fan campaign emerged to keep it going. It ended up successful as a third season was greenlit in June 2023.
  • Teasing Creator: Kristina Tonteri-Young did an interview a few days before the release of the second season where she cheekily discussed the "Avatrice" ship between her character Beatrice and the lead character Ava. Come the release of Season 2, it turns out the ship became canon.
  • Throw It In!:
    • An amusing instance of this. For a Q&A, Kristina Tonteri-Young stated that she wasn't actually sure if the additional forehead kiss during Ava and Beatrice's Big Damn Kiss was improvised or not.
    • A more straightforward example is Beatrice telling Ava that it's her pleasure, not her job, to help her on her journey, which was thrown in by Tonteri-Young.
  • Un-Canceled: The show was canceled after two seasons, but a fan campaign was successful in getting a third season in June 2023.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The series was originally envisioned as a feature film before getting retooled into a television show.
    • Toya Turner (who plays Shotgun Mary) was meant to return for Season 2 before leaving abruptly due to personal reasons. As a result, the season had to be slightly retooled. Kristina Tonteri-Young later implied the scene where Camila confronts Beatrice on her feelings for Ava was written for Mary.
    • There was a scene cut from Season 2 that would involve Ava and Beatrice talking while sleeping in bed together. Naturally, shippers mourned the loss of this scene once word broke out.
