• Hostility on the Set: Reportedly, Gérard Depardieu and Guillaume Canet didn't get along.
• Meta Casting: In-universe, Preah is passing for someone from South-East Asia and gets everyone easily fooled. Her actress, Inés Sastre, is Spanish, rather than French.
• Those Two Actors: Gérard Depardieu and Spanish model/actress Inés Sastre previously played in The Count of Monte Cristo.
• What Could Have Been:
  • The film began life as a Prequel to the 1967 French TV series about Vidocq, meant to explain his past and how did he get his abilities, but this was abandoned when the producers failed to obtain the series' rights.
  • Vidocq's role was meant to be played by Daniel Auteuil, but scheduling problems impeded it. This wouldn't be the last time where Auteuil wound up being replaced by Depardieu, the same happened over twenty years later with Maigret.
