• Follow the Leader: It was pretty blatantly an attempt to cash in on the contemporary Power Rangers fad.
• Pop-Culture Urban Legends: There's an internet rumor that it was actually Gary Oldman who played Van He'llsing. Given the disguising hair, hat, and mustache, it's very hard to tell what this guy really looks like, not helped by the character being credited As Himself. However, Gary Oldman was a well-established actor by this point. This show couldn't possibly have afforded him, and even if they'd blown their entire budget on forcing him into this contract, surely they would have used that for marketing?
  • The story appears to originate from an anonymous wikipedia contributor and was then recirculated.
  • The actor is likely John Entwistle who wrote parts of the soundtrack for Van-Pires. If you look at Entwistle around that time the appearance is uncannily similar in regards to the facial hair and of course Van He'llsing has a similar accent.
