- Accidentally-Correct Writing: Predicts that portal turrets were originally used to ward off baby-snatchers as revealed in the gameinformer magazine, if you take that as canon.
- Ascended Meme
- The word "Broseidon". Scott used it in the Bro Gamers strip (albeit spelled "Broseiden") to make fun of yet another "casual gamer" demographic: the frat boys who only play Halo and Madden. A few months later, Halo: Reach came out, and several gamers chuckled when they spawned a buddy next to them 15 times without dying.
- Author's Saving Throw: After backlash for the joke about the death of Iwata being tasteless, the strip that had that joke was republished, with the joke and part of what led to it being removed, changing the strip's punchline.
- Creator Breakdown: In March 2020, Scott revealed that the reason that for the hiatus that began in 2018 was due to a bout with severe depression that included a suicide attempt.
- Schedule Slip: While the comic advertises that it updated every Monday, it was no longer the case in later years. Lampshaded in the "Left Behind" comic, as well as the randomly-changing page titles, such as "Honk if you like updates."
- The main comic seemed to update, at its most frequent pace, about once a month, mostly because of Scott's busy con schedule, which he only has because of VG Cats, the comic he barely updated anymore. Ow... There's also a child in the mix.
- In the early 2010s, at 18 comics (between VG Cats and Super Effective) per 52 weeks, that's a batting average of 34% of Mondays.
- There have been a total of 4 VG Cats comics in as many months in 2017. Super Effective was not updated in two full years, although Ramsoomair has made reference to wanting to hire another artist to draw it.
- While there ended up being 8 comics in the whole of 2017, there were a grand total of 2 in 2018 and absolutely none in 2019. VG Cats was silent following the release of #380 in March 2018 (which coincided with the announcement of the VG Lewds Patreon). He would reveal two years later that the real reason for the hiatus was, in actuality, that he had been struggling with severe depression.
- Why Fandom Can't Have Nice Things: The reason why there is no more forum for this webcomic.
