Trivia / Uru: Ages Beyond Myst

• Acting for Two: David Ogden Stiers voices both Jeff Zandi and Dr. Watson.
• In Memoriam: There's a scrolling display with the names of prominent dead players (as well as one fictional character who died in-universe) located in the city. After the game went free to play, one of the first new content updates was a memorial Age called Veelay Tsahvahn, which featured more detailed obituaries for some of the dead players.
• Out of Order: Uru was released before Myst IV: Revelation. Oops.
• Un-Canceled: The multi-player component was canceled before it came out of beta, but brought back to life a few years later by GameTap as Myst Online. Then, after little over a year, it was canceled again. Then plans were announced for a version of the game using fan-made content... which was canceled. Cyan then decided to release the whole thing as open-source, and to just let the fans deal with it. After that, it was uncanceled yet again, and the service is currently free to play.
• What Could Have Been: The game was intended to be much larger and more ambitious than it ended up being. Entire Ages were dropped when the multiplayer component was cancelled. Some of these Ages appeared in Myst V: End of Ages. Another was incorporated as one of the worlds in Obduction.
  • As part of the community rewards for the Myst 25th Anniversary Kickstarter, Cyan released some age design documents showing how said ages (Ahnonay, Gahreesen, Kadish Tolesa, Laki, and Teledahn) were originally designed to be played. Amongst other things, the crack in the first sphere of Ahnonay was supposed to leak water when not in the right position, causing a change in the water level, thus releasing a boat from the central pool rather than having the player swim. It was also designed as being the creation of just a random D'ni engineer rather than Guildmaster Kadish.
• You Sound Familiar: Yeesha is voiced by Rengin Altay who previously provided the voice of Yeesha's mother Catherine in Riven.
