• California Doubling: The scenes supposedly set in Tijuana were filmed in a Mexican neighborhood in East Los Angeles.
• Directed by Cast Member: Although Lou Adler is credited as the director, Tommy Chong actually directed much of the film.
• Throw It In!: The scene where the dog walks in and eats the burrito on the ground wasn't planned; It was a stray that wandered onto the set. Cheech and Chong ab-libbed around the moment.
• Trope Maker: For the Stoner Flick.
• What Could Have Been: The Germs were one of the bands originally filmed at The Roxy for the "Battle of the Bands" scene that include a cross-section of Los Angeles' vibrant punk scene of the time (The Berlin Brats, The Dils and The Whores made it into the finished film). However, the band's performance was cut from the film after Darby Crash sparked a food fight between the band and the audience.
