Trivia / Titans (1999)

Go To

  • Creator's Pest: The DEOrphans were ones for writer Jay Faerber, who had to rewrite most of his story ideas to include them. Well in Faerber's case, he apparently considered Jesse Quick to be one as well and he tended to portray her rather unflatteringly to the point she had an affair with her mom's younger boyfriend.
  • Executive Meddling: Infamously, as Andrew Helfer's editorial meddling derailed Jay Faerber's strong writing until Faerber left the series. Helfer wanted the series to focus on a brand new group of kid heroes, which led to the DEOrphans getting shoehorned into the series and Faerber having to restructure all his plans to work around them. Faerber later went on record and stated that Helfer came onto the series as editor with absolutely no prior knowledge or familiarity with the Titans at all, and was basically shoving his ideas onto a pre-existing team he never cared for in the past.
  • Follow the Leader: This was inspired by JLA (1997) and in fact, it spun out of a crossover with JLA.
  • What Could Have Been: The majority of Jay Faerber's plans for the series were all pretty much ruined due to Andrew Helfer's insistence on Faerber focusing on the DEOrphans.
    • Epsilon was initially supposed to be a serial killer of superheroes jumping from dimension to dimension, and was being tracked down by the Kingdom Come Titans. Another ideas was for Epsilon to be an adult version of Danny Chase.
    • Slizzath was going to make a reappearance and reanimate several dead Titans as zombie soldiers, like some prototype version of Blackest Night.
    • Arsenal was going to get a job testing weapons for Kord Industries and be dating agent Dakota Jamison, much to Lian's unhappiness due to her preference for Troia.
    • Dolphin was officially going to join the team and go on missions with Tempest, which would've probably helped their relationship issues if they were fighting alongside each other instead of Dolphin waiting for him to come back to the Tower.
