Trivia / 3LW

Go To

  • Contractual Purity: 3LW started out as a typical Teen Idol Girl Group, but in 2002, they adopted a Hotter and Sexier image, which made it difficult for them to return back to a kid-friendly image. Part of the reason why 3LW never regained the success it once had was because Adrienne and Kiely were involved in The Cheetah Girls, and Disney felt that their image in 3LW conflicted with their wholesome, family-friendly brand. Therefore, they were unable to release Point of No Return and adequately promote as 3LW.
  • Executive Meddling:
    • The management no longer wanted Naturi Naughton in the group and had attempted to pressure her into leaving by giving her little screen time, limiting her lines in the songs, and dressing her in unfortunate wardrobe options. They had also planned to cover up her departure with the excuse that she was going to attend college. Naturi has also stated that Adrienne was afraid of voicing her concerns in fear of being kicked out of the group as well.
    • Kiely's older sister and legal guardian was 3LW's manager and often pushed her to be in the spotlight despite Naturi and Adrienne having stronger singing voices (in their first two singles, at least). This also goes in line with the favoritism and preferential treatment claims that pushed Naturi to leave.
    • Disney was against 3LW's Hotter and Sexier image due to conflicts with their family-friendly brand, since Adrienne and Kiely were also in The Cheetah Girls at the same time. This made it difficult for 3LW to promote and caused their album, Point of No Return, to be scrapped.
  • Technology Marches On: "No More (Baby I'ma Do Right)" references pagers, which now has been replaced today with texting.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • 3LW's second album was originally titled Same Game, Different Rules, featuring the lead single "Uh Oh"; however, the label did not think it appealed enough to the urban audience. The album was also leaked onto the Internet and Epic Records considered dropping 3LW because of the losses they incurred.
    • Point of No Return was supposed to be released in 2006, but because Adrienne and Kiely were also part of The Cheetah Girls at the same time, Disney feared that their mature, racy work as 3LW would clash with their family-friendly image. In the end, it never got released.
