Go To

  • California Doubling: Despite part of the story taking place in Ogunquit, none of this series was filmed in Maine.
  • Creative Differences: Scott Cooper was attached to direct at one point, but he ended up dropping out of the project over "creative differences", which were believed to be that Cooper wanted an R rating while the studio wanted PG-13.
  • Cut Song: Josh Boone revealed that Marilyn Manson and Shooter Jennings had recorded a cover of The Doors song "The End" but it ended up being too expensive to use.
  • Recycled Soundtrack: Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper" is played over the end credits of Episode 5. "Fear and Loathing in New Vegas." The same song was used in the 1994 mini-series, over the shots of Project Blue in the beginning of the pandemic. And, it was also quoted in the book itself.
  • Self-Adaptation: Stephen King wrote the last episode.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Ben Affleck was selected to direct. He described it as "The Lord of the Rings set in America", as he envisioned it to be a trilogy. Affleck dropped out due to other commitments and was replaced by David Yates and Steve Kloves. Paul Greengrass was also considered to direct the film at one point.
    • In August 2014, when the adaptation was a standalone film with Josh Boone writing and directing, Deadline reported that Warner Bros. wanted to cast Matthew McConaughey as Randall Flagg. On Twitter, Boone corrected the story as that he actually wanted McConaughey for the role of Stu Redman and that he wanted Christian Bale as Flagg. McConaughey did go on to play Flagg in The Dark Tower (2017).
    • In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Boone revealed that he had discussions with Marilyn Manson about playing The Kid (a character who first appeared in the 1990 unabridged reissue of the novel). When Manson was unable to appear because of scheduling, the character was removed from the show.
