• Acting for Two: While Sideshow Bob is addressing the crowd, a man near the back raises his hand and says "probably"; he is also voiced by David Hyde Pierce, who had wanted to be a man in a crowd.
• Creator's Favorite Episode: "Lisa, you don't spend ten years as a homicidal maniac without learning a few things about dynamite" is Kelsey Grammer's favourite line of Bob's.
• Deleted Scenes:
  • One scene was fully animated but cut for time: after Cecil drops his gun and all of his money goes flying, we pan down to Hans Moleman's house at the bottom of the waterfall. The money and gun fall around him, and he looks up, thanking God, before taking the gun, pointing it to the heavens and saying "Now, give me the rest."
  • After the flood scene, Homer would then run to the nearest tree, now filled with fish, carrying a bucket to catch them in.
• Orphaned Reference:
  • The original script included a scene where Cecil speaks to a woman he identifies as Maris, referring to Niles' unseen wife. The producers of Frasier, who were allowed to review the script before production, asked for it to be cut. He still makes reference to her when Bart covers his eyes.
  • Cecil accidentally throwing the money off the cliff was originally to be followed by a scene where the money rains down on Hans Moleman, who is living in a lone house at the bottom of said cliff. The house can still be seen in at least two◊ shots◊.
• What Could Have Been: An early draft of the episode originally featured an Opera house explosion, which was changed because the writers felt using a dam would be more exciting.
