• Life Imitates Art: Like most examples stemming from this show, there are Simpsons fans out there who treat June 5th (or 6/5) as the holiday Homer made up ("The Feast of Maximum Occupancy").
• Reality Subtext: The episode's Chalkboard Gag had Bart writing, "I will not defame New Orleans." as a response to viewer complaints stemming from the previous episode's treatment of the city.
• Word of God: The writers thought that when the episode aired, the end would be immediately followed by a Fox promo (rather than just the credits). The idea was that the viewers would be pissed off by having a revelation from God being cut off by a promo.
