Trivia / The Ruff & Reddy Show

  • Acting for Two: Daws Butler and Don Messick provide all character voices.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes:
    • Pirated episodes recorded off Boomerang are making the round in online sales. Warner Home Video entertained the idea of releasing the entire series on DVD but chose against it. At the time sales didn't seem to warrant the work. Since then Warner Archive has expressed interest but admit there's a lot of work ahead and the lack of popularity isn't going to make it that high a priority.
  • Limited Animation: While it didn't create the concept (Crusader Rabbit beats it by eight years), it certainly broke it down to a science. When Screen Gems and Hanna-Barbera sold the show to NBC, they could only get about $3000 per half hour of cartoon. As where a typical Tom & Jerry cartoon used up to 25,000 drawings, a four-minute episode of Ruff & Reddy used roughly 3,000 drawings. While the art and animation in early episodes were near-nihilistic, things looked more refined later.
  • Screwed by the Network: The stories themselves are 13 episode arcs, during the Cartoon Network re-runs, they'd either be random filler or when they were given a half hour slot you'd see segments 1-6 one slot and 8-13 the next. Meaning you'd never get to see segment 7 unless it randomly popped up as a time filler.
    • One episode from the "Goon Of Glocca Morra" story arc which had been missing from Boomerang airings (episode 12, "Gold Room Gloom") has surfaced on YouTube.
