Trivia / The Rose Flower and Joe

• Cross-Dressing Voices: Joe (a male dog) is voiced by Minori Matsushima, who would later provided the voice of Chirin in the 1978 feature film "Chirin no Suzu" by Sanrio. She previously did voice work for the 1970 animated short Yasashii Lion (The Kindly Lion) where she not only voiced Buru-Buru as a cub. But as a second narrator where she played a child that asked questions about the events of the story.
• Self-Adaptation: The short is directed by Takashi Yanase (the author of the original book) who also written lyrics for the short's theme song. He even made illustrations for certain scenes in the short (such as Joe's first imagination sequence with the rose flower).
• No Export for You: This short alongside The Kindly Lion and Little Jumbo never gained an international release.
