• The Cast Showoff: Mark's actor, Johnny Crawford, was one of television's earlier examples as Crawford, a former Mouseketeer, would sing on several episodes and had a modestly successful recording career during the series' run.
• What Could Have Been: The original script of the pilot had Lucas McCain named John^note which would have meant he shared a name with a future longtime Senator and 2008 Republican nominee for President, he would have been single with no son rather than the widower he eventually became and his weapon of choice would have been a pistol instead of his Winchester rifle.
• You Look Familiar: Like many serialized shows of its era, The Rifleman frequently recycled cast members in supporting roles. Lee Van Cleef, James Coburn, Jack Elam, Warren Oates, Claude Akins and John Anderson, among many others, put in multiple appearances; Anderson appeared in staggering eleven episodes, always playing a different character.
