Trivia / The Pumaman

  • Creator Backlash:
    • It shouldn't be surprising that Donald Pleasence once declared this the worst movie he was ever part of (which is saying a lot, because he was also the villain in Warrior of the Lost World and also did a Mexican-shot comedy called Frankenstein's Great Aunt Tillie where he plays Victor Frankenstein... Miguel Angel Fuentes also turns up (yep, Vadinho himself) as Frankenstein's monster. Zsa Zsa Gabor is also in it. No, we're not kidding. You can see the whole film on YouTube.
    • Walter George Alton, who played Tony Farms/Puma Man, loathes being reminded of that role and would just like to be left alone to his law practice. Though he finally did talk about it in 2022, during MST3K's "A Tribute to Pumaman" on the Gizmoplex.
    • Director Alberto De Martino even hates the film, declaring it as "the only pic I did wrong in my career".
  • Creator Killer: This was first of four films that would ultimately end Alberto De Martino's career as a film director. Needless to say, it also convinced Walter George Alton (who had a few minor acting roles before this) to quit his acting career and return to practicing law.
  • Follow the Leader: This movie was made to cash in on the success of Superman: The Movie.
  • Language Barrier: Affected the making of the film because, according to Walter George Alton, director Alberto De Martino did not speak much English and Alton himself had to perform numerous rewrites of the script to make the English dialog sound natural. Definitely explains some of the stranger lines in the movie.
Henchman: Everyone who goes there doesn't talk!
Crow: So... no one who doesn't go there doesn't not talk?
  • Spinning Paper: The other headlines in the newspaper (ex.: "Lynch agrees to London talks on Ulster") refer to the aftermath of two real events that happened in late August, 1979: the Warrenpoint Ambush and the assassination of Louis Mountbatten
  • Vindicated by Cable: This film would have faded into obscurity were it not for some puppets from Minnesota.
