• California Doubling: Set in South Africa. Filmed in England, California, and Zimbabwe.
• Creator Backlash: In a 2005 interview, Morgan Freeman said the movie, "wasn't as good as I had hoped it would be. I can't say particularly why, but I wasn't as moved as when I was reading the script."
• Fake Nationality: Most of the Afrikaner characters seem to be played by British actors, quite ironic considering how much the movie emphasizes the Afrikaners' hatred for the British.
