• Casting Gag:
  • In Season 2, the bodyjumped Esther and Finn, who are native Norwegians take American bodies, whereas Kol who was born in America takes a British body.
  • Claudia Black's character Morrigan was kept in isolation from civilization by her "mother", Flemeth. Here Claudia's character kept her niece isolated from civilization until her escape.
  • Before being cast as Hope Danielle Rose Russell played Sebastian Roché daughter in A Walk Among The Tombstones. Here she's his step granddaughter.
  • Even though most of the Mikaelsons are American, none of them are played by Americans. Riley Voekel is American plays the Norweigan-born Freya.
• The Cast Showoff: Charles Michael Davis as Marcel is first established by singing "How Do You Like Me Now?"
• Dawson Casting: Natalie Dreyfuss who played 17-year-old Cassie was 27 compared to Danielle Campbell who just turned 18 when she was cast as Davina.
• Directed by Cast Member:
  • Joseph Morgan (Klaus) directed two episodes: "Behind the Black Horizon" and "Keepers of the House".
  • Daniel Gillies (Elijah) also directed two episodes: "Phantomesque" and "There in the Disappearing Light"
• Fake American: Despite their accents, Klaus, Rebekah, Elijah and Kol were born in what is now America while none of them were played by American actors.
• Promoted Fanboy: Danielle Campbell was a huge fan of The Vampire Diaries before being cast on the show.
• Those Two Actors: Claire Holt (Rebekah) and Phoebe Tonkin (Hayley) also played teen mermaid friends in H₂O: Just Add Water.
• What Could Have Been: Julie Plec really wanted Klaus to go full werewolf at some point, but for one reason or another it just didn't fit with the story they were telling at the time, until it ended up never happening.
