The Originals

  • Why were and are the various factions of New Orleans so oblivious to the events in Mystic Falls? Examples to follow.
    • While it ultimately turned out that the Curse of the Sun and Moon was a lie spread by Klaus and was actually just holding back his wolf half it was a huge deal. At the time it vampires believed it would let them day walk and werewolves thought it would cure them of transforming. New Orleans had a very fragile balance based on things remaining as they were and it not being in anybody's interest to fuck with the status quo. That curse one way or another could have (and did just not in the way expected) absolutely shatter the status quo. That's the sort of thing that should have been an all hands on deck sort of thing.
      • It is possible that Marcel being in Klaus inner circle knew it was a false. Not only that Damon and Stefan thought it was a myth which lead me to believe a majority of supernaturals treated it as an old wives tale.
    • It seems unlikely that there weren't a few score of vampire who just dropped dead when Originals started dying and not so much as a "what's up?" from these people?
      • From what we have seen the crew in New Orleans where sired by Marcel, his bloodline. Seeing as Klaus was not the one did not die per say , then Marcel did not die nor did any of his crew. So they didn't really notice by the time they get word of other lines falling outside of new Orleans Klaus is back in the City . So they have more pressing issues and then Rebekah later on gives them the skinny regarding the white oak stake.
    • Recently the Travelers were attempting to end all witch magic everywhere. They failed and only got Mystic Falls but that wasn't their goal. While it's unclear if wolves are "natural" or not vamps and witches both had a very vested interest in dropping their petty New Orleans BS and manning up to effectively save the world as they know it.
      • The Events with the Travelers was over what , a week maybe two. During that duration New Orleans is basically in the middle of a cold war that explodes . Once again they where distracted with their own conflicts to notice. Also once again by the time they did it was over.

  • Granted Bonnie is our only real example to judge by but are New Orleans Witches supposed to be stupid powerful? It seems like slowing/stopping Klaus or Elijah is no longer a suicide run but something only slightly more serious than stopping Damon or Stefan.
    • Unlike the Witches in Mystic Falls the New Orleans rely on the power of their ancestors. Basically drawing on the power of past Witches gone. Spirit magic , if you will. Best shown in the season one finale when due to the sucessful harvest a few chosen Witches where able to draw on past Witches for greater power. Also unlike the Witches in Mystic falls the New Orlean Witchs use variety other means to boosting thier powe. Such as sacrifacial magics like Papa Tundre, or leeching magics like Finn.
      • Bonnie was shown several times tapping into the power of her ancestors on Vampire Diaries. Upon closer observation to the two groups the more likely answer is that Bonnie is actually really OP in the grand scheme of things. She's certainly weaker than NO witches but she learned about her powers as a teen, her mother was MIA and Grams died shortly there after and aside from that she didn't seem to have anybody. By contrast the New Orleans witches are raised with a coven from birth and presumably trained growing up. Certainly Davina seems to be both younger and better trained than Bonnie was at the start. Given sixteen years of training and what appears to be sheer natural talent Bonnie would probably be fairly high tier.

  • When it was revealed that Kol was creating a silver dagger that could stop his unstable, homicidal, maniac of a brother without causing permanent damage to him... why did Elijah and Rebekah side with Klaus?
    • Kol was working on a dagger is far from actually a completed dagger. Also while in New Orleans Elijah and Rebekah where in a good place. They had a home, and stability. Klaus was behaving himself ( mostly) and Elijah wanted to keep that good streak going. Also Rebekah being impulsive wanted to earn brownie points with Klaus.

  • Did Dahlia's spell somehow nulify Hayley and Jackson's marriage? The curse that Marcel had cast turned them effectively into reverse werewolves and had been broken. Restoring it would be only a minor annoyance to someone able to control the shift at will.
    • Klaus explained while Dahlia was cursing Hayley. The curse was tailored to Hayley's Hybrid Nature. The spell was directed at her, the original curse trapped a Werewolf in wolf form. In this case it trapped a Hybrid in wolf form. Because of the Unification Ritual , what effected Hayley affected the rest of the pack. Hayley and Jackson marriage made the curse of the whole pack possible.
      • But he also claimed it was a variant on the original spell. The original spell did not trap werewolves in wolf form. It reversed the full moon curse. Hybrids are (for reasons unexplained) immune to that. They change at will. While I guess A Wizard Did It is the correct answer they have generally kept mechanics somewhat logical.
      • What he meant it was a variant was that it was altered to work on Hayley's biology. The original spell was made specific for the Bayou Werewolves biology. To trap them in wolf form unless there was a full moon. This one was the same spell but tweaked to work on Hayley, who is a Hybrid and NOT a Werewolf. Specifically it focused on the werewolf part of her physiology , focusing on cursing only her to the one night a month as a person clause instead of the Bayou wolves. Making sure that her Hybrid nature did not exempt from the curse and ensuring that due to the linking ceremony everybody else in the pack changed

  • Klaus doesn't keep Raina Cruz's sword. Given Klaus' reaction to Raina Cruz is coming to town seemed to be a lot closer to 'oh crap' than 'tough break kid' he likely knows what her sword can do and more importantly that since it doesn't actually kill a vampire it would work on him. There are only a handful of weapons on the planet that even significantly slow down an Original and this one seems to be the best since unlike Silver Daggers or Papa Tunde's dagger this one you can use on as many Originals (or assorted other vampires) as you like without leaving it behind to keep them anchored. It's frankly far to powerful to simply fail to pick up after killing Raina. [[spoiler: While it's now broken and Lucien wasn't an Upgraded at the time having that available at the second half of S3 would have been fantastic.)
    • I thought in the Vampire Diaries they showed that the weapon is bonded with the person blessed? Cursed? to be its bearer. So it would not have worked for Klaus anyway. Even if it did, a weapon that powerful would be to risky to have on hand just in case it be used against the Originals. They tend to be more prudent then leaving Original harming weapons at hand. Which is why they tried to contain the cursed objects instead of use them.

  • Why don't his siblings (or Marcel) ever call Klaus out for being so abusive or a hypocrite?
    • He feels betrayed when he finds out Rebekah and Marcel were the ones who called Mikael to New Orleans in 1919 and while Rebekah argues with him about how he kept taking her happiness, she never says the obvious, which is "you are abusively controlling and I am an adult who can make her own decisions. What did you expect after 1000 years of stealing time and loved ones from me?"
    • Again, when Klaus is on the rampage screaming about Elijah and Rebekah betraying him and daggering him, why doesn't Elijah ever call him a hypocrite and say, "we only did to you what you've done to us many times over the years and at least in our case, it was because you were threatening and admitting to killing innocent people and acting irrationally while we were trying to protect YOUR DAUGHTER from her evil aunt"? Like I get that Klaus has a right to be pissed they put him in a supernatural coma while his daughter was in danger, but he wasn't ranting about that while fighting Elijah. He was ranting about being daggered.
      • He's also repeatedly taken the lives of his siblings' loved ones either directly (Gia, the mayor's son, Alexander) or indirectly (Celeste) so he's also a hypocrite for being pissed they took him out of the fight to protect his daughter, whom they have just as much reason to want to protect (she's their family too). Why don't they ever just say this stuff out loud and call it what it is? Abuse and hypocrisy? I know Klaus would never actually listen to them but as a viewer it's frustrating watching them not even defend themselves well.
        • Because they know Klaus, and they know it would be pointless. After several centuries of dealing with his hypocrisy and stubbornness they know they would just be wasting their breath.
