Trivia / The Oblongs

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Billy West does a lot of the voices in the show, so this can happen at times.
  • Cross-Dressing Voices:
    • Literally, with the always versatile Billy West, who voiced pre-op transgender barkeep Anita Bidet (and Anita back when she was a man as seen in "Please Be Genital").
    • Pamela Segall Adlon voiced Milo and Jared Klimer.
  • Edited for Syndication:
    • In the episode "The Golden Child", an angry customer says "Go back to France, you stupid kraut!" On [adult swim], the word "Kraut"note  is muted. The line is uncensored on DVD, overseas broadcasts and the original WB airing (that is, if you ever saw it on there).
    • On the TV version of "Get Off My Back", Mayor Bledsoe pulls out a gun and yells, "Move it, assholes!" with the last word partially muted out. On DVD, the line is "Move it, pussies!" with the last word uncensored.
  • Missing Episode:
    • Because of how badly The WB mishandled The Oblongs, the last five episodes were never aired. It wouldn't be until [adult swim] picked up the show that the rest of the episodes would air in America (although Canada got the entire series, and all the episodes are available on DVD).
    • If you lived in Australia around the time this show aired, it's worse, as the show was canceled halfway through the first episode due to complaints about the content.
  • Screwed by the Network: Canceled in its original run after nine episodes on The WB. Attempts to keep it alive failed, though all 13 episodes eventually aired on [adult swim], and a revival was said to be in the works for [adult swim] before they backed out due Angus Oblong revealing about it before contracts were signed.
  • Trans Character, Cis Actor: Anita is a pre-op transgender woman, and she is voiced by the cisgender Billy West.
  • What Could Have Been: Sparks were amongst the bands whom auditioned to record the title theme, but were turned down by Angus in favor of They Might Be Giants. Listen to it here. Other demos of auditioned bands such as Soul Coughing and The B-52s have yet to surface.
    • Mark Hamill was Angus' choice for Bob's voice but was outed by the producers for Ferrell instead. Hamill would later voice Helga's father in "Milo Interrupted".
    • A Halloween special that would've explained how Bob lost his limbs was considered for production by [adult swim], but because Angus revealed too much about it before contracts were exchanged, they backed out at the last minute.
  • Word of Gay: In an interview with the voice actors (Randy and Jason Sklar), they confirmed that Biff is gay while Chip is straight.
