Trivia / The Next Food Network Star

Go To

  • In Memoriam: One was given to Season 8 contestant Cristie Schoen and her husband, who were brutally murdered in March of 2015.
  • Role-Ending Misdemeanor: Season 10's winner Lenny McNab failed to get a show on Food Network after allegations of him being racist, homophobic, or otherwise rude toward Food Network celebs over the internet cropped up.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • There was nothing wrong with Penny's food. In fact, the judges consistently loved her cooking. The problem was her over-the-top Jerkass/Alpha Bitch personality rendering her unlikable. Her recipes actually looked quite tasty. If only Penny hadn't been such a bully, she might have actually won and brought a Middle Eastern point of view to the Food Network.note
    • On the other hand, Jeffrey Saad from an earlier season could ALSO have brought Middle Eastern flavor to the network. The best part is that — unlike Penny — Jeffrey has an extremely likable and friendly personality. He does have a show on Cooking Channel now and a webseries on foodnetwork.com that ran for a year, but he doesn't get nearly the exposure he would have if he had won.
  • You Look Familiar: Some contestants on NFNS are chefs who have previously competed on different Food Network competition shows like Chopped. Conversely, some of them start to appear on these shows after having made a name for themselves on NFNS.
    • Season 10 examples: Before participating in NFNS, Chris Kyler appeared on Cutthroat Kitchen (which he won), and Lenny McNab, the eventual winner, appeared on Guy's Grocery Games.
    • For an example which jumps to another network: Vic Vegas, who was a fan favorite in season 7, is sometimes called in as a food expert by Jon Taffer on Bar Rescue.
    • Erin from Season 11 and Jason from Season 13 were champions of Holiday Baking Championship and probably landed here because they were just as much fun to watch as they were good at cooking.
