Trivia / The Legend of Zelda (1989)

Go To

  • Creator's Apathy: While Nintendo of America still paid attention to the Zelda episodes and signed off on aspects like Tomboy Princess Zelda, story editor Bob Forward noted the actual producers of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! were so focused on the main Super Mario animated and live-action segments that the Zelda creative team was left completely alone.
  • Inspiration for the Work:
    • Link and Zelda's relationship was heavily informed by a similar dynamic between David and Maddie in the show Moonlighting.
    • Writer Eve Forward drew upon her experiences playing Dungeons & Dragons when scripting. The episode "Doppelganger" was specifically based off a magic mirror item from the game.
  • Missing Episode: Not all of the The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! live-action segments that aired alongside the Zelda episodes are on the Shout! Factory DVD, one particular example being "The Treasure of Sierra Brooklyn".
  • The Other Darrin: In the French dub, even though the series only lasted 13 episodes, Zelda herself went through at least four different voice actresses: Virginie Ledieu, Céline Monsarrat, Brigitte Morisan, and Laurence Crouzet.
  • Real-Life Relative: In the Mexican Spanish dub, Zelda and Link were voiced by actress Rocío Garcel and her son Jorge Roig Jr., respectively.
